Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced PS5 Physical Edition Requires Internet to Work

Gamers are going to require an internet connection to install the physical version of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on PlayStation 5. After being rumored for months, Ubisoft officially confirmed that the beloved Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is getting a remake with a new title, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The game is set to be the first remake in the long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise and will focus on delivering a pirate experience that is faithful to the original from 2014.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is not only going to update the graphics and combat system, but also add six hours’ worth of content. This will consist of things that were supposed to be in the original Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag but got cut due to time restrictions. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Worldwide Reveal Showcase also showed the return of core parkour mechanics that have been missing from the RPG era of Assassin’s Creed games.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Keeps ‘Controversial’ Feature from the Original

Ubisoft confirms it will keep a somewhat controversial feature from the original Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag in the upcoming remake, Resynced.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced PS5 Physical Edition Still Needs an Internet Connection

According to the label on the packaging for the European and US versions of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the game requires an internet connection to install on the PlayStation 5. In recent times, this trend has been happening more frequently than ever before with new releases, and it was seen only a while ago with the online requirement for Crimson Desert as well. The exact reason behind this decision has not been clarified yet by Ubisoft.

In some situations, large file sizes prevent a full game from fitting on a single Blu-ray, leading developers to depend on online downloads instead of shipping multiple discs. The physical version of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on the PS5 acted as an access key, meaning only a small chunk of the game was actually present on the disk, with the rest required to be downloaded from online servers.

The response from players has been largely negative due to many developers opting to go the digital route. Many have criticized the move, with some calling for boycotts and dismissing the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced disk as useless if the game is pulled from online stores. This situation reflects a growing frustration among gamers, especially those who prefer physical ownership. Concerns are also being raised about long-term accessibility, as the game may become unplayable, similar to what happened when Ubisoft shut down online servers for The Crew.

Even with all the backlash against the decision to make an internet connection necessary to install the game Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the majority of fans are satisfied with how faithful this remake seems to be. It will be fun to see how the remake turns out when Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced releases on July 9, 2026.
