August 18 is The End of an Era For Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is losing its most prominent content creator on August 18 with a final video. Destiny 2 has been slowly losing pieces after the announcement that it would end service for good after the June 9 Monument of Triumph update. Bungie’s statement, Sony’s follow-up, and then layoffs at Bungie all came as one shocking announcement after the other, and seeing how community efforts like server slams and voicing support on social media amounted to nothing left many fans discouraged. Currently, Destiny 2 sits at around 35,000 concurrent players on Steam daily, but that number is dwindling.

Even then, Destiny 2 has almost 10 times the concurrent players of Marathon, despite its end-of-service status compared to Marathon‘s active development. Some fans are now moving on to The Division 2 or other games, as they may have completed everything they wanted to in Destiny 2 and the game is not getting more content. This includes content creators like Fallout Plays, Mactics, and Rick Kackis, who have been some of the biggest YouTubers the game has ever had. On August 18, the biggest content creator for Destiny 2 is officially retiring, marking the end of a long era.

Destiny 2 is Officially Disabling One Armor Set Permanently

With Destiny 2 now in end-of-service mode and most of the team laid off, Bungie is disabling one armor set permanently.

Say Goodbye to DattoDoesDestiny on August 18

Beloved Destiny 2 content creator Datto is retiring on August 18, 2026, with a final video being uploaded on that day. The YouTube DattoDoesDestiny channel and all its content will still be available for fans to watch whenever they want, but Datto will be moving on to play Deadlock under a new YouTube account called DattoDoesDeadlock. Datto has the largest following among Destiny 2 content creators, with over 1.2 million subscribers, surpassing even Aztecross, who has over 1 million subscribers. Datto has been one of the most influential figures in Destiny 2‘s development, often calling Bungie out for bad decisions with genuine passion for the game.

Datto’s fans believe that the final video releasing on August 18 will be titled something along the lines of “Datto Did Destiny,” as a celebration of the game, its community, and the YouTuber’s own career. This would be a sad title, and regardless of the one Datto ends up choosing, it’s still a sad day for Destiny 2 fans who have been playing long enough to have seen at least one video or two from the YouTuber. Datto stated that the channel will still feature the occasional upload or community post from time to time, but August 18 will mark the end of the main Destiny 2 coverage. Luckily, Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph builds will still be there, as will Datto’s other videos, like the Vault Cleaning series.

However, with Datto gone and other content creators moving forward, Destiny 2‘s end feels all the more real by the day. Even in the face of end-of-service, fans are finding ways to keep the game’s legacy alive. Destiny 2 Project Sunrise is a new free release that allows players to explore vaulted content with a mod, for example.

For those who are still playing, it’s worth noting that a new Destiny 2 ammo glitch makes endgame content easier, whereas a different bug makes farming Tier 5 armor sets in Master Lost Sectors very easy, and it can be done in under a minute with optimized builds. On top of that, players can solo farm the Last Wish Raid with a new method for Queenswalk.
