August 6 is the End of an Era for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

August 6 is the End of an Era for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

A legendary Pokemon Scarlet and Violet event is officially over for good on August 6. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have seen the end of multiple features this year, starting with no new seasons after Season 41, Pokemon Champions taking over as the main VGC hub, and recurring events coming to a close. While this is in preparation for the launch of Pokemon Winds and Waves in 2027, it can be sad and destabilizing for long-time players given that Gen 9 has been around for almost four years now.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s Summer 2026 events kicked off on July 17 with a 7-Star Tera Raid for Mightiest Mark Magikarp, which is only obtainable this way, and also included multiple mass outbreaks for Water-type Pokemon. The Magikarp event came as a surprise, with the Pokemon being extremely rare due to the Mightiest Mark, and some of the mass outbreaks are even better. These allow players to catch some rare Pokemon with an increased chance of having a Mark, which is a pretty big deal for collectors.

Why You Should Replay Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in 2026

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet officially entered their fourth year since release, and there are many good reasons to replay them in 2026.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Are Officially Retiring Popular Event

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will no longer have starter events after August 6, with eight new events announced and no closure for the Gen 9 starters. At the start of 2026, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s 7-Star Tera Raid starter event came back one last time with one starter Pokemon per week, featuring all of them on a rotation, all available with the Mightiest Mark. However, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s Mightiest Mark Hisuian Samurott was the last of the bunch and ended on July 17, and instead of featuring the Paldean starters thereafter, the Magikarp event took place. Now, Gen 9 games are about to get eight new events in the span of seven weeks, starting August 7 and ending September 26. So, it seems that the event featuring 7-Star Tera Raids for starters is officially over for good.

Timing-wise, and based on the wording of the original post about the starter event, it seemed like the next logical step was to feature all starters, including the Paldea trio, and finish the event on August 6. In fact, were the event to feature Meowscarada, Skeledirge, and Quaquaval one last time, it would have had a new starter once a week, with the event running until August 6 in place of the Magikarp event. Considering that eight new events for August 7 and beyond have been announced and that this was confirmed to be the final run of the 7-Star starters, it seems that the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter events will be skipped entirely, or maybe have a separate re-run later on. Either way, August 6 marks the end of the starter events for Gen 9, and all the respective Mightiest Mark Pokemon will now remain unobtainable for those who didn’t catch them.

Based on the leaks, Pokemon Winds and Waves will launch in late 2027, with the release window being September of next year and a DLC in the holiday season. This is unconfirmed so far, but given the lack of news surrounding Gen 10 this summer after the teaser trailer in February, it seems likely that the games won’t be released in the first half of 2027.

What will happen to Gen 9 remains to be seen. For now, the franchise is still delivering lots of new content to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pokemon. Pokemon Pokopia‘s first DLC is launching on August 5, Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Ruler of the Skies came out very recently, and the physical TCG is getting a special 30th anniversary set.
