Avatar Legends Last-Minute Delay On Xbox Has Fans Furious

Avatar Legends Last-Minute Delay On Xbox Has Fans Furious

Paramount and Gameplay Group International have just revealed a major snag for the Xbox version of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game. Set to release on all platforms today, it has now been delayed until September 3 on Xbox Series S/X due to “unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature.” Fans on Microsoft’s gaming platform are in disbelief.

The official Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game account announced the delay roughly ten hours ago, which isn’t much of a heads-up considering that the game was scheduled to release today, July 23.

“As we approach launch, we want to update our community on a few platform-specific details,” the team stated on X. “For the Xbox community, we are forced to delay the release. Due to unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature, we will now launch by September 3. Existing pre-orders will remain active and will not be canceled.”

Xbox owners aren’t the only ones getting the short end of the stick here, though, as the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of the game will also launch without cross-play and will only be available in English.

Naturally, given that they were given a mere two hours’ heads-up, players who were hoping to jump into Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game later today aren’t too pleased about the sudden announcement. While many are simply annoyed that pre-orders on Xbox and Nintendo platforms aren’t being canceled, several Xbox Series players on X are understandably upset at the timing of the announcement.

“Why would they wait until the day BEFORE to say something,” writes one user. “I literally took off work to play it on release now I have to wait until September??? Horrible communication.”

“Have been a massive supporter of this game ever since I found out about it but this is the 2nd time a delay has happened,” writes another user. “We as Xbox players deserve some form of compensation. Another open beta in game currency or a dlc character. From a consumer standpoint, this is unacceptable.”

A third wrote, “Are you actually kidding me, why would you announce this the day of release if you knew you wouldn’t be able to release it on Xbox till two months later?”

Regardless of what the “backend feature” that led to the delay of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game ends up being, the fact that the game is also running into localization issues on Nintendo Switch platforms makes the sudden nature of the announcement feel extremely chaotic. Also, even if you aren’t a Nintendo Switch or Xbox owner, the fact that players on Steam and PlayStation platforms will run into fewer players online due to the cross-play limitations may lead to the lobbies feeling a little barren.
