Battlefield 6 just shed new light on its upcoming Top Gun crossover. Set to arrive on August 18, the Battlefield 6 Top Gun collaboration will add new vehicles, a new weapon, and new modes to the military shooter, as well as herald the return of a fan-favorite Battlefield 1942 map.
Though it hasn’t hosted nearly as many pop-culture crossovers as its primary competitor, the Battlefield franchise has still dabbled in some collaborations over the years. These collaborations have ranged from small Easter eggs that reference fellow EA-published games like Mirror’s Edge and Dead Space to full-fledged crossover events like Battlefield 2042‘s Mass Effect event. But no previous Battlefield crossover has been quite as ambitious as this upcoming Top Gun collaboration.
Everything Coming in the Battlefield 6 Top Gun Crossover
Arriving on August 18, the Battlefield 6 Top Gun crossover will bring quite a few meaningful additions and tweaks to the popular first-person shooter. Arguably the biggest addition in the upcoming Top Gun update is the return of Wake Island, a map that debuted in Battlefield 1942 and has popped up frequently throughout the years in various entries. This new Battlefield 6 version of Wake Island will feature a modern day overhaul, complete with carrier HQs for both teams and modern vehicles. It’ll also benefit from the naval combat and water physics improvements that came in Battlefield 6‘s Season 4 update.

Two new air combat-focused game modes will be added to Battlefield 6 on August 18. Carrier Strike will see ground units trying to capture objectives, unlock vehicle drops, and open opportunities for pilots to bombard the enemy carrier, damaging it enough to trigger a final assault inside the ship. The second mode, Fighter Sweep, will be a Battlefield REDSEC-exclusive Gauntlet mission that revolves around aerial dogfights. Battlefield REDSEC‘s Fort Lyndon Battle Royale map is also getting a new Top Gun-inspired USS Grant POI.
To accompany these new air superiority modes, Battlefield 6 is adding the F/A-81F Super Spectre and the F-74A Seacat, new two-seat jet fighters inspired by the ones seen in the Top Gun movies. A new Interdictor sniper rifle is also joining the arsenal on August 18. EA previously announced that a handful of Top Gun: Maverick skins are also coming with the crossover, those being Miles Teller’s Rooster, Lewis Pullman’s Bob, and Charles Parnell’s Warlock, all of whom will have fully voiced lines provided by their on-screen actors.
As can be expected with any Battlefield 6 update, this upcoming one will bring an assortment of balancing tweaks and mechanical changes. Perhaps the most on-brand for this update is the addition of Airplane Control Assist, an optional setting that’s designed to give new and returning players a better understanding of the game’s flight controls. Additionally, an optional ADS Dispersion Crosshair is being added to Battlefield 6, and some major additions are coming to Battlefield 6‘s Portal mode, such as an Advanced Editor Program that will give selected creators some exclusive experimental map-making tools.
