Battlegrounds PS5 Version is Worse Than Xbox Version

Battlegrounds PS5 Version is Worse Than Xbox Version

PUBG: Battlegrounds will run at a higher resolution on Xbox Series X than on PlayStation 5. As the battle royale nears a decade old, it’s moving away from last-gen consoles, and that shift may come with a surprise for Sony fans. While PUBG on PlayStation 5 will certainly run better than the PS4 version, it’ll fall short of the new Xbox version.

On November 13, 2025, PUBG: Battlegrounds will lose PS4 and Xbox One support, but revamped console versions are coming to current-gen systems the same day. PUBG Studios hopes the shift will help keep the game performing to modern standards and will free up resources for further optimizations. While all that might sound great, not everyone will experience the same benefits from the transition.

PUBG: Battlegrounds’ PS5 Resolution is Lower Than Xbox Series X

An announcement from PUBG Studios detailed the upcoming current-gen console versions, confirming that PUBG: Battlegrounds will reach 60fps at 1440p on PS5, compared to 60fps at 2160p on the Xbox Series X. While the Xbox Series X is slightly more powerful than the PS5, thanks to marginally higher CPU clock speed and more compute units, it’s not often that gamers see a difference that dramatic in Xbox’s favor. Sony fans will need the more expensive PS5 Pro to match the Series X’s performance for PUBG, although the vanilla PS5 will still outperform the Series S, which can only reach 60fps at 1080p.

Lower resolution isn’t the only edge Xbox has over PlayStation in the new PUBG ports. Current players will be able to keep their earned achievements when moving from Xbox One to Series X or S, but trophies will not transfer between the PS4 and PS5. This isn’t the first time PlayStation fans have run into the issue, as Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 trophies didn’t carry over to PS5, and the same thing happened with Skyrim: Anniversary Edition before that. According to PUBG Studios, the transfer would be too technically complex to implement because of all the data involved.

PlayStation Plus subscribers do get an exclusive item, the Pixel Art Parachute from PUBG‘s initial PlayStation launch, which is not available to Xbox Game Pass users. Regardless, it’s an interesting time for the game as it makes improvements for more modern hardware. It will be interesting to see what new updates and improvements come with the shift to current-gen consoles, so PUBG players should keep their eyes peeled in late 2025 and beyond.
