Bethesda has confirmed that a notable update is on the way for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was shadow dropped last year, giving Elder Scrolls fans the chance to relive the classic game on modern platforms with significantly improved graphics. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was an instant hit for Bethesda, and its success has likely helped fuel upcoming projects like the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters that are on the way.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was initially released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, but the massive open world game has since made its way to another platform. Oblivion Remastered is now on Switch 2, meaning fans can take it on the go. The Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered comes with some “optimizations” that are not currently available in other versions of the game, but a future update will rectify that issue.
Oblivion Remastered is Getting a New Update
Bethesda took to social media to confirm that it is working on a new update for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. Bethesda confirmed that the Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered comes with “a number of optimizations” that are not currently available on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, but that it is “looking into” bringing these improvements to those versions of the game. Bethesda stopped short of specifying what optimizations it was talking about, but promised to “share more” when it is able. So while more concrete details will have to wait for a later date, the takeaway is that Bethesda is working on an update that should improve the Oblivion Remastered experience across all platforms.
Some Elder Scrolls fans may be surprised that a new Oblivion Remastered update is in the works. Oblivion Remastered infamously has some of the same bugs and issues that plagued the original version of the game, and so many assumed that it wouldn’t get much in the way of notable updates. It will be interesting to see what exactly the next update brings to the table. Hopefully, everything goes smoothly and fans end up with a better version of Oblivion Remastered when it’s all said and done, regardless of which platform they choose to play it on.
Elder Scrolls fans will be able to check out the Oblivion Remastered update while they wait for more news on the next main series game. The Xbox CEO recently commented on The Elder Scrolls 6‘s progress and development, and had nothing but praise for what she saw of the game. Bethesda is currently hard at work on Elder Scrolls 6 as its next major release, and while a release window is nowhere in sight, the game should be out within the next five years.
Luckily, all the main series Elder Scrolls games are easily accessible. The whole series can be played on PC, while Oblivion and Skyrim are readily available on all modern platforms. Xbox gamers even have access to Morrowind on top of Oblivion and Skyrim, so those getting anxious for ES6 have many options when it comes to revisiting the classics.
