Bomberman Collection is Real and It’s Releasing Today

Super Bomberman Collection was announced and shadow-dropped during the most recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, meaning that Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 owners can now purchase and play the game. While the initial announcement was for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game, Super Bomberman Collection also shadow-dropped for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Originally created by Hudson Soft and now owned by Konami, the Bomberman series has been around since 1983, with the original game releasing on early Japanese PCs. In the four decades since its debut, the Bomberman series has spawned over 80 video game entries, ranging from sequels to arcade iterations to handheld ports. Bomberman has even received its own manga and anime series over the years.

One of the Best Co-Op Survival Games of All Time is Coming to the Nintendo Switch 2

A highly regarded co-op survival game announces that it will be coming to The Nintendo Switch 2, and fans may not have to wait long to play it.

Super Bomberman Collection Is Available Now on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Super Bomberman Collection, a grouping of seven early, highly influential Bomberman entries, has landed on the Nintendo eShop, Steam, and both the Xbox and PlayStation stores, priced at $19.99. Konami has also confirmed that a physical version of Super Bomberman Collection is set for release on August 25, 2026. Those picking up Super Bomberman Collection on Nintendo Switch 2 can make use of the console’s ‘GameShare’ feature, allowing groups to play locally using a single purchased copy of the game.

Much like other legacy video game collections, Super Bomberman Collection adds several features that weren’t available in prior iterations of the included titles. A rewind function will let players immediately fix their mistakes, while a save/load feature lets players quit at any time and pick up where they left off. A gallery featuring artwork from across the history of the Bomberman series is also present, as is a collection of Bomberman soundtracks that players can sort and listen to whenever they’d like. A Boss Rush mode has also been added, letting players battle a range of bosses from across the series.

Every Game Included in Super Bomberman Collection

Super Bomberman Collection includes seven individual Bomberman games:

  • Bomberman (Famicom)
  • Bomberman 2 (Famicom)
  • Super Bomberman (Super Famicom)
  • Super Bomberman 2 (Super Famicom)
  • Super Bomberman 3 (Super Famicom)
  • Super Bomberman 4 (Super Famicom)
  • Super Bomberman 5 (Super Famicom)

This collection includes every Super Bomberman entry originally released for the Super Famicom, with Super Bomberman 4 and 5 having never been released outside of Japan before. The Famicom versions of the first two Bomberman games are also included in this collection. While all entries follow the same general Bomberman maze gameplay formula, most have a unique mode or feature, such as Super Bomberman 2‘s ‘Sudden Death’ mode and Super Bomberman 4‘s ‘Push’ mechanic, which allows players to push an opponent into an exploding bomb or off the arena.

The last mainline Bomberman entry to be released was 2023’s Super Bomberman R 2, a sequel to the 2017 game that was once a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Much like its predecessor, Super Bomberman R 2 featured modernized graphics but retained the general gameplay style of classic Bomberman entries like those listed above. One of Super Bomberman R 2‘s most novel features was its Stage Editor mode, which allowed players to create their own stages and share them with others around the globe via online play. Unfortunately, Super Bomberman R 2 wasn’t a major hit with critics, with it earning a 68 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic with just 37% of critics recommending it. Given that Super Bomberman Collection has just shadow-dropped, its critical reception is currently unknown.
