PS Plus has yet to reveal every game coming to the Extra and Premium tiers for August 2026, but it has already revealed one of those games ahead of time. As fans should know, PlayStation Plus follows a reliable pattern of Wednesday reveals and Tuesday additions for the most part. It has experimented with the addition aspect of that formula in the past couple of months, but fans know that the official reveal will take place on Wednesday, August 12, with the first games of the batch expected on August 18.
Although it’s possible there’s some fluctuation because of the aforementioned release experiments, the PS Plus Premium games are added on the same day as usual, meaning that its confirmed title for August 2026 should land on the 18th. Of course, it’s worth mentioning that the PS Plus free games for August 2026 are available now, ahead of then. Players can currently claim Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition, Signalis, and Big Walk, and keep them in their digital libraries forever (although PS Plus is required to play them). Meanwhile, the PS Plus Extra and Premium game catalogs will expand later this month.
PS Plus Premium Game Already Confirmed for August 18

- Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams joins PS Plus Premium
- It serves as an appetizer to Onimusha: Way of the Sword
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword releases on September 3
PlayStation Plus is in a bit of a boom period, at least as far as fan knowledge goes, because PlayStation revealed several games coming to the service back at the State of Play in June 2026. One of those is the PS Plus Premium game for August, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, which fans can expect to join the service on August 18 or thereabouts. Its PS Plus Premium game catalog addition is obviously timed. Released in 2006, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams has been the last major mainline installment for the past two decades, and it didn’t quite land with its audience then. It may or may not do better on PS Plus Premium, but it serves as a way to see how the franchise is being revived now in 2026.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword releases soon, on September 3 to be exact, and anticipation is high. Again, it’s been 20 years since the last game in the franchise, and Capcom’s samurai action game franchise has always had a dedicated fanbase. Both Onimusha: Warlords and Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny have been remastered in recent years, slowly building the path to the franchise’s grand return. And this new action game on PS Plus supports that.
It remains to be seen how both games perform, of course. Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams requires the highest tier subscription to PS Plus to access, while Onimusha: Way of the Sword is releasing in September 2026—the busiest month of the year to avoid the No Man’s Land that is November 2026 because of GTA 6‘s release date. Still, leading the charge is what Capcom does, and Way of the Sword is one of the first games for September 2026.
Either way, the wait is dwindling down. Soon, Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be the most recent release in the franchise, and that’s something many fans have been waiting to hear. At the same time, fans should also learn more about the upcoming PS Plus Extra and Premium games for August 2026 soon (it’s possible something joins Onimusha).
