Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way since its controversial release back in 2020, undergoing an impressive transformation into one of the best modern sci-fi RPGs. CD Projekt Red’s official support for Cyberpunk 2077 has slowed since the Phantom Liberty expansion completely overhauled the game in 2023. However, fan-made projects have helped Cyberpunk 2077 fans experience Night City in new ways, including with a friend, thanks to a recent mod release.

The last major patch for Cyberpunk 2077 was update 2.3.1, which was released almost a year ago in November 2025. While Cyberpunk 2077 did get an official PS5 Pro update back in April of this year, offering players new visual options to take advantage of the improved hardware, no significant content was added. With Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 hitting Netflix this week and Cyberpunk 2 confirmed to be in the works, there are still plenty of reasons to revisit Night City in 2026.

Cyberpunk 2077: NightCoop Officially Revealed

The NightCoop team is aiming to bring seamless co-op to Cyberpunk 2077 with this newly announced mod project. While there’s no release date yet, the NightCoop mod’s official website says it’s currently in closed testing for the prologue and act 1 of Cyberpunk 2077. Eventually, the mod will allow full co-op with up to eight players for the entire Cyberpunk 2077 story when it fully releases.

Features of Cyberpunk 2077: NightCoop Mod

  • Up to 8-player co-op
  • One shared world
  • Shared combat
  • PvP with the flip of a switch
  • Dialogue choices decided by vote

Although the trailer for this Cyberpunk 2077 mod only showcases two players, NightCoop plans to support up to eight players simultaneously in one shared game world. Players simply need to have the mod installed and join the host’s game, where they can participate in combat in real time and vote on dialogue options throughout Cyberpunk 2077‘s story. Additionally, the mod allows players to choose whether they want players to be able to hurt each other through a PvP toggle option.

A player killed in PvP is not actually dead, but downed and can be revived, so they won’t lose progress or undo the world state with this mode toggled on.

In NightCoop, every player will be a different version of Cyberpunk 2077‘s protagonist V. Unfortunately, this means players won’t get to join the host’s game and play as someone like Jackie Welles or Johnny Silverhand. However, players can create their own V in any way they like, from clothing style to skill trees, allowing players to have a party of diverse Cyberpunk 2077 builds.

Combat remains the same even in co-op, and players will all be able to damage the same enemies and see the same bullets during shootouts. If combat becomes too easy as more players join the sessions, NightCoop offers players the ability to up the difficulty of Cyberpunk 2077‘s enemies by giving them buffs like grenades, blocks, and smarter AI, rather than simply making them bullet sponges with more health. The combination of these optional features should make NightCoop an easy mod for any group of Cyberpunk 2077 fans to enjoy when it launches on PC sometime in the near future.
