Brand-New Steam Game Is a Co-Op Dungeon Crawler With Cooking

Steam‘s ever-growing catalog has recently expanded with Deep Dish Dungeon, a distinctive genre hybrid that combines survival and metroidvania elements with a strong emphasis on cooking and optional co-op. While the game is not a PC exclusive, its Steam version stands out for launching with a generous discount that remains available through late October 2026.

Deep Dish Dungeon comes from Behold Studios, an award-winning indie developer founded in Brazil in 2009 and headquartered in Canada since 2019. The studio is best known for the 2012 retro RPG Knights of Pen and Paper and 2015 strategy RPG Chroma Squad, both of which launched to strong reviews and received industry accolades. Deep Dish Dungeon is Behold’s sixth project to date and, like several of its earlier games, combines established genre conventions with a less conventional progression structure, this time built around preparing for repeated expeditions into a single large dungeon.

Chances are you’ve probably had at least one co-op experience that takes place within a cooking game setting.

Deep Dish Dungeon Is 15% Off on Steam Until October 27

Deep Dish Dungeon launched on October 13 with a $14.99 list price, but Steam is offering it for $12.74 through October 27. While launch discounts are common among indie releases on Valve’s storefront, most are limited to 10%, whereas this one amounts to a 15% price cut. Deep Dish Dungeon also carries the Steam Deck Verified badge, a designation held by only about one in four titles available on the platform.

Deep Dish Dungeon’s Delicious Gameplay Loop

Similar to Valheim, ‘Food Is Progress’

Cooking is directly tied to progression in Behold’s latest release. Players forage for ingredients and other resources during expeditions before returning to camp to craft tools and prepare meals, with different recipes providing different stat effects. “Food is progress” is the developer’s official three-word explanation of the system, reflecting how eating and preparation help players push deeper into the dungeon rather than function as a separate cooking mini-game. The overall approach is decidedly similar to how food works in Valheim.

Unlike many modern dungeon crawlers, Deep Dish Dungeon is neither a roguelike nor a roguelite. Its singular, titular dungeon is entirely handcrafted, with deliberately placed puzzles, hidden areas, and routes that gradually open up as players acquire new tools. Behold also deliberately omitted a map and compass, requiring players to learn the environment through landmarks, shortcuts, and repeated visits. That structure regularly sends the adventuring party back through familiar areas after unlocking new ways to progress, giving exploration marked metroidvania mechanics.

Deep Dish Dungeon’s Co-Op Supports Crossplay

The entire game can be played solo or in online co-op with up to two friends, for a maximum party size of three. Behold says the limit was chosen to preserve enough space for exploration and puzzle-solving without making the dungeon feel overcrowded. Crossplay is supported across all of the game’s current platforms: PC, Mac, and the Xbox Series X/S. Deep Dish Dungeon has also been available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers from day one.
