Brand-New Switch 2 Exclusive Co-Op Horror Game Officially Revealed

The Switch 2‘s horror library continues to grow with the upcoming Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch, an exclusive co-op title by Atlantis Studios. The Switch 2 has seen an influx of horror games, with multiple exclusives from various high-profile studios in the works.

Horror is coming back to Nintendo consoles in a big way. Since the launch of the Switch 2 in 2025, several third-party studios have begun porting their biggest horror hits onto Nintendo’s popular and powerful Switch successor. Konami’s Silent Hill f, Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem, and Bloober’s Cronos: The New Dawn have all found their way to the console, with Bloober even working on a Switch 2 exclusive that it says is only possible with Nintendo’s current hardware. While fans wait for whatever Bloober is producing, a new Switch 2 exclusive horror game has been revealed, and its premise is certainly a fresh one in the genre.

Why Some Players Are Shelving Their PS5 in 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2

Sony has been making really controversial moves, and it has inspired some gamers to ditch their consoles in favor of the Switch 2.

Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch is a Switch 2 Co-Op Horror Game Where Communication is Key

French studio Atlantis Studio recently revealed its debut project, Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch, a co-op-only horror experience that will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Nightwatch‘s main hook is its asymmetrical co-op approach to gameplay, blending elements of games like Phasmophobia and It Takes Two into one unique horror game. Atlantis Studio describes the premise of the game as one player waking up in a haunted house and seeking to escape, while a second player has to guide and coordinate with the first from a different perspective to get the first player out. Communication is key in Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch, as good or bad instructions can make or break the whole experience.

Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch is an entirely co-op experience, meaning that Switch 2 owners without a friend to play with may not be able to enjoy the game at all. Details on whether Nightwatch will have a similar friend pass to the one in It Takes Two are still unknown, but it would take some pressure off finding someone else who has the game. Atlantis Studio has accompanied the reveal of the game with a brief gameplay trailer, showcasing what appears to be a very claustrophobic atmosphere and a stalker-type enemy that will likely torment the player in the house.

Asymmetric co-op and horror games have been a huge hit lately among fans of both genres. Dead by Daylight remains an asymmetrical horror staple while the genre has expanded into franchises like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the upcoming Saw horror game. Meanwhile, It Takes Two and Split Fiction have been critical successes as co-op-exclusive, communication-first gaming experiences, breaking free from the traditionally solitary nature of playing a story-driven game. Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch, seemingly meshing these two genres, appears to be a potential recipe for success.

Atlantis Studio’s Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch doesn’t have a firm release date yet, but it could be a good Halloween window launch, which should get ahead of a stacked fall for the Switch 2. Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is sure to monopolize many Switch 2 owners’ time, while FromSoftware’s Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods is also set to launch in 2026, and hype for it remains very high. Where Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch can slot into this year’s release schedule and, hopefully, be a success remains to be seen.
