Treyarch has officially confirmed the long-rumored PlayStation ports of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops and its critically-acclaimed sequel, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Call of Duty: Black Ops is considered by many fans of the franchise to be one of the best Call of Duty games ever made. Its Zombies mode is still played to this day, and innovations like Wager Matches have left a lasting impact on the series. The multiplayer maps and the single-player campaign remain incredibly popular to this day as well.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is another heavy hitter when it comes to Call of Duty. Black Ops 2 tops many fans’ lists of Best Call of Duty Games, and for good reason. Black Ops 2 doesn’t just rest on its laurels, instead delivering one of the more innovative CoD campaigns and offering some of the most pure-fun multiplayer the series has ever seen with its fair share of iconic maps. Black Ops 1 and 2 have been playable on modern consoles through Xbox’s backward compatibility for years now, but the games will finally be made playable on PlayStation soon enough.

Black Ops 1 and 2 Are Coming to PlayStation
Treyarch took to Twitter to confirm that Iron Galaxy Studios has ported Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 to PlayStation consoles. The tweet confirmed that the games will be coming to PlayStation in July, but a specific date was not announced. The fact that the tweet mentions “PlayStation consoles” suggests that the ports will be available for both PS4 and PS5, but that remains to be seen. No native Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have been announced at the time of this writing, and that is likely to upset some fans considering Xbox owns Call of Duty.

The Black Ops 1 and 2 PlayStation ports leaked weeks ago, with many assuming that the projects would be announced at one of the big recent gaming events, like Summer Game Fest or the PlayStation State of Play. The events came and went with no announcement, though backend data confirmed the games would indeed be coming to PlayStation in the near future. Now that we have an official confirmation, the next step is to see when exactly Black Ops 1 and 2 will be coming to PS4 and PS5, but fans shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for more information on that front.
There are still a lot of details we don’t have about the PlayStation ports of Black Ops and Black Ops 2. For example, we don’t know if the acclaimed Black Ops DLC packs will be baked-in with the new releases, or if the expansions will require separate purchases. More information on that front should come to light sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, some fans may be questioning why Xbox is not getting native ports of the games. While the Call of Duty games are playable on Xbox via BC, it’s safe to say that there are many that would prefer native ports of the games on their console of choice. It’s also puzzling why these Black Ops ports are coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, as that seems like a big missed opportunity. If fan demand is loud enough, perhaps we will see these classic Black Ops games make their way to more platforms in the future.
