Footage of a canceled Star Wars action RPG has recently surfaced online, giving fans a glimpse at what could have been Star Wars: Magellan. The Star Wars game is believed to have been scrapped ahead of developer Echtra Games’ shutdown in 2025.
The iconic sci-fi franchise originally created by George Lucas has spanned a wide array of media since its inception. Many of the franchise’s main films have become some of the most beloved movies of all time, with three trilogies spanning three generations of the Skywalker family. Star Wars has been adapted into everything from television shows and novels to an expansive library of video games, both retelling the stories of the movies and adding new content to the Star Wars universe. Now, a previously scrapped Star Wars game has resurfaced online.
Gameplay from Scrapped Star Wars RPG Appears Online
A recent video uploaded by an anonymous developer showed in-development gameplay footage from the canceled Star Wars: Magellan. The game was set to be an action RPG with two different classes available for players to choose from, with The Hunted Jedi and The Exiled Mandalorian having different weapons and skills. Players would have access to a wide variety of weapons and powers from the Star Wars universe, ranging from blasters and lightsabers to an assortment of Force powers. The gameplay footage also shows off different action sequences from Star Wars: Magellan, with players fighting off waves of droids, Stormtroopers, and other enemies.

The canceled Star Wars game was also confirmed to have elements of multiple other popular games. An “NPC Bond” system was reportedly being developed for the game as a way for players to deepen their relationships with other characters, similar to Persona‘s Social Link system. Star Wars: Magellan was also planned to be heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay, allowing fans to team up to complete the game’s story. The reasons for the project’s cancellation were not made clear, though it is believed to have been a result of a strategic realignment within Zynga and Take-Two, possibly connected to Echtra Games’ shutdown in 2025.
Star Wars: Magellan‘s unfortunate fate comes as the franchise has continued to push more original stories through its games. The Star Wars Jedi games introduced fans to young Jedi Cal Kestis, taking place after the events of Revenge of the Sith and receiving two games in 2019’s Fallen Order and 2023’s Survivor. The launch of Star Wars: Outlaws in 2024 similarly introduced fans to a new cast of characters in a story set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
While the franchise has not returned to the story of the Skywalkers since 2019, Star Wars has continued to expand into new characters and stories. The Mandalorian was a major success for the franchise during its run from 2019 to 2023, and recently received a feature film continuation with the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Star Wars: Starfighter is also currently in production by Lucasfilm and 21 Laps Entertainment, directed by Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy and scheduled to premiere in 2027. Star Wars fans should have plenty to look forward to from the franchise in the near future, with plenty planned for the series.
