CoD: Warzone Black Ops Royale – How To Get Weapons And Upgrade Them

Warzone’s Season 2 Reloaded update adds a new mode called Black Ops Royale, which is inspired by Call of Duty’s original Blackout battle royale. This new experience removes the custom weapon loadouts found in Warzone’s other game modes, and it requires scavenging of ground loot and upgrade kits. Here’s everything you need to know about weapon archetypes and how to upgrade them in Black Ops Royale.

How to get guns in Black Ops Royale

There are no custom loadouts to buy or earn in Black Ops Royale. All players start with a pistol and a knife, and any additional weapons are obtained from ground loot, supply boxes, or activity rewards.

More details on Black Ops Royale’s activities can be found here, including the high-tier loot areas called Cradle Breaches.

Weapon rarities

Guns in Black Ops Royale contain anywhere from one to five attachments, depending on the weapon’s rarity. The rarer the weapon, the more predetermined attachments there are on the build.

The rarities are as follows:

  • Common (Grey): One attachment
  • Uncommon (Green): Two attachments
  • Rare (Blue): Three attachments
  • Epic (Purple): Four attachments
  • Legendary (Orange): Five attachments (maximum for normally secured
  • weapons)

There will be very rare Exotic rarity weapons found in Black Ops Royale that can include up to eight attachments, but these can’t be built with attachment kits.

Weapon archetypes

In addition to a rarity level, each gun is also labeled as a specific archetype. Every weapon build is designated for a particular style of play, and the grouping of attachments match that style of play. Knowing the various weapon archetypes will let you easily identify which guns are going to benefit your particular playstyles.

All weapons found in Black Ops Royale are from Black Ops 7’s weapon pool. These can be found in the following archetypes listed below.

All archetypes

  • CQB assault rifle: Designed for close-range combat
  • Recon assault rifle: Built for long-range combat
  • Covert assault rifle: Suppressed weapon focused on staying off the radar
  • Burner SMG: Built for close-quarters combat
  • Stalker SMG: Suppressed weapons for covert flanks
  • Mantis SMG: Transforms the SMG into a mini-assault rifle
  • Raider shotgun: Aggressive build for rushing
  • Bug Out shotgun: Offers combat readiness with increased ammo and damage range
  • Striker shotgun: Shotgun build focused on range versatility
  • Lockdown LMG: Less mobile LMG focused on holding a defensive position
  • Patrol LMG: A more mobile build focused on a faster playstyle
  • Heavy Metal LMG: Built for long-range fights
  • Scout marksman rifle: Focus on mobility and quick engagement
  • Widow marksman rifle: Suppressed and stealth focused rifle
  • Viper sniper rifle: Powerful one-shot sniper build
  • Redacted Sniper rifle: A suppressed build focused more on mobility and stealth
  • CQB pistol: Quickdraw pistol designed for close-range engagements
  • Akimbo pistol: Dual-wield pistols constructed for rapid engagements
  • Sentinel pistol: Designed for stealth encounters while excelling at range

How to upgrade guns

Weapons can be improved by adding attachment kits. Attachment kits automatically increase the weapon’s rarity and add the next attachment to the weapon. This means the orange rarity guns can not be further upgraded with kits, as they have the maximum attachments possible.

These attachment kits are found as ground loot or within supply boxes, or earned as activity rewards.

Once you’ve looted a gun, you can view your Tac-Map and tab over to the “Upgrade Path” section. This will let you view what attachments you’ve already unlocked for your primary and secondary weapons as well as the weapon attachments still needed to fully upgrade it.
