The reality of Manhattan is unraveling in Remedy Entertainment’s Control Resonant, and we now have an idea of exactly when to expect the end of the world: September 24.

Remedy dropped the release date during Sony’s June State of Play livestream, alongside a new trailer that gives some new looks at the game’s story and hinted at some returning characters. The story remains cryptic, in true Remedy fashion. Check out the trailer for more.

The trailer gives the first look at the return of Jesse Faden, protagonist of the first Control and sister to Resonant lead Dylan, so it seems the two parautilitarian siblings will have to work together to drive back the reality-bending threat at the heart of the game.

More important than that, though, is the fact the trailer teased the return of Dr. Casper Darling, the FBC’s eccentric lead researcher and one of the best parts of the original Control. We last saw Darling in Alan Wake 2, where it was implied he had wound up in the Dark Place, the spooky dimension where art can manifest in reality, often with horrific consequences.

Remedy has been building a connected universe between its games for a while now. Control included a few nods to Alan Wake 2 before that game was announced, and the FBC had a big presence in Alan Wake 2’s setting of Bright Falls, but neither of those games really advanced the plot of the other. But seeing Darling here, after where he was left in Alan Wake 2 (and who he was hanging out with), could suggest we’re going to get some interesting new story beats advancing the narrative of Remedy’s multi-game universe overall, in a way we haven’t quite seen before.

In any event, hopefully Darling has another musical number.
