Controversial GTA Online Change Has Fans Worried About Grand Theft Auto 6

Some Grand Theft Auto fans are concerned about the future of GTA Online and GTA 6 after a recent controversy surrounding the Kortz Center Heist. After the disappointing payouts for the Kortz Center Heist in GTA Online, fans are worried that Grand Theft Auto 6‘s online counterpart will be even more grindy than the current online mode. This direction for GTA Online’s Heists paints somewhat of a bleak picture of the franchise’s future.

Rockstar is already sitting in hot water with some fans over Grand Theft Auto 6‘s $80 price tag and lack of physical disc version. Instead, GTA 6 fans who purchase a physical version of the game will only get a code in the box rather than a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S disc. Coupled with the lack of a PC version at launch and a concerning direction for GTA Online, and it’s easy to see where some fans’ worries stem from.

GTA 6 to Make 5 Billion in Its First Week, Report Says

A reliable new report claims that the current sales trajectory of GTA 6 could mean it crosses 5 billion in sales in one week.

GTA Online Players Think the Kortz Center Heist is Bad News for GTA 6

A post on the GTA Online subreddit by user Healthy_Direction_47 sparked some anxiety among players over the future of Heists in GTA 6 Online. User Healthy_Direction_47 points out that the recent Kortz Center Heist, which released as a major content update for GTA Online back on July 14, is not worth the grind it takes access for the payout it offers.

  • Costs $15+ million to start
  • First Time Payout per Week: ~ $2 million
  • Subsequent Payouts: ~$400,000

In order to access the Kortz Center Heist, GTA Online players will need to purchase a mansion, the cheapest being The Tongva Estate at $11.5 million, as well as the Art Studio, which will set them back another $4.7 million. After spending over $15 million, GTA Online players can take on the Heist, but even then, Kortz Center only pays out $2 million for the first run each week, with subsequent runs only paying out around $400,000 each time. For some GTA fans, the return on investment just isn’t worth the grind to gain access to this Heist.

Additionally, other GTA Online Heists have been nerfed in the latest update to reduce their payouts as well. Previously, the Cayo Perico Heist was seen as the most lucrative in the game, costing $2.2 million to start via purchasing the Kosatka submarine, with a payout ranging from $400K for Tequila to $1.9 million for Pink Diamond. Now, the most Pink Diamond can net players is just under $1 million, making it a far less desirable Heist for the cost it takes to access.

The nerf to Heist payouts and the disappointment surrounding the Kortz Center Heist has GTA Online players worried that this direction will bleed over into GTA 6‘s online mode whenever it launches. Many fans on user Healthy_Direction_47’s Reddit post expressed fears that Rockstar has nerfed these Heist payouts and made them more of a grind in order to encourage users to pay for in-game currency with real-world money via Shark Cards or subscribe to GTA+ ahead of GTA 6. While it’s unclear how GTA 6 will handle its online component at this time, the latest update to GTA Online doesn’t bode well for the highly-anticipated sequel.
