Creepy PC Horror Game Is Free to Keep, But Only for a Limited Time

Creepy PC Horror Game Is Free to Keep, But Only for a Limited Time

PC users have until July 12 to claim a horror game called Nightbell completely free of charge. Compared to console users, gamers on PC receive many more freebies each month, as they get free-to-keep promotions from several sources, mainly Steam and Epic Games Store. That said, the current promotion does not come from either of these storefronts.

Some early data suggests that Steam has at least two free-to-keep games scheduled for July. On the Epic Games Store side of things, there are already two games lined up to get a 100% discount on July 2: River City Girls 2 and I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. Reports also suggest that another game called Nova Lands will be free to keep on Epic’s platform, though that promotion will likely start on July 9. Meanwhile, there is another offer PC users can benefit from, with an atmospheric horror game that will be completely free forever if claimed in time.

All The Free Games You Can Claim In July 2026

Don’t miss a single July 2026 free game given away on Steam, Amazon Prime Gaming, Epic Games Store, Game Pass, and PS Plus.

Save 100% on Nightbell via itch.io

Nightbell is priced at about $4 USD on Steam, but thanks to a developer-led promotion, fans can download it for free until July 12, 2026. All they need is a free itch.io account and 4 GB of free space on their gaming PC. Gameplay-wise, Nightbell is similar to most other horror walking simulators, where the player is forced to explore different parts of a creepy house while being subjected to all kinds of eerie encounters throughout. However, despite this familiar premise, it currently holds Mostly Positive reviews on Steam, which could be seen as a sign that it still appeals to fans of the genre.

Nightbell was free to claim on itch.io in June as well, though the promotion was originally supposed to last until the end of the month. However, it appears that developer TrueGames has extended the offer, so more players can claim and keep it.

The story is fairly straightforward. Players take on the role of a child who encounters strange events on Christmas Eve. It also features a subplot, a story the kid’s mother reads to him before bed, which has a premise similar to the acclaimed 2025 horror movie Weapons.

Fans should note that Nightbell is a fairly short indie game, an atmospheric walking simulator that can be completed in around 30 minutes. The first half may feel slow as it focuses on building tension. However, the second half becomes much scarier, with moments that can catch most players off guard.

Nightbell is also discounted by 50% on Steam, bringing its price down to $1.99 USD until July 9.

More Free PC Games in July

Right now, there’s an extra freebie game available on the Epic Games Store that is not part of the storefront’s weekly offers. It is called A Simple Garbage Sorting Game, and it has serious Severance vibes, with perhaps even some The Exit 8 and Backrooms-inspired atmosphere in the mix too. There is also a game called Greenhouse: Schism on Steam that has recently gone free-to-play despite previously costing about $5 USD.
