Crimson Desert is Still an Absolute Monster on Steam

Crimson Desert is Still an Absolute Monster on Steam

Crimson Desert is retaining its Steam player count in a way that rarely ever seems to happen for single-player games. Crimson Desert hit the scene mid-March, earning mostly positive reviews and selling millions of copies in a matter of days. The game has been a massive hit, with a great deal of praise for the sheer scope of its gigantic open world.

Crimson Desert‘s open world is significantly larger than the ones found in games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Skyrim, to the point where players can expect to spend hundreds of hours if they want to explore it all. Even then, simply focusing on Crimson Desert‘s main quest is an endeavor that takes nearly 70 hours on average. While some players have found it all a little too overwhelming for their tastes, others have embraced Crimson Desert and named it one of their favorite open world games.

Crimson Desert Has One Rule You Need to Learn Early

Crimson Desert looks like a game you can rush through, but learning to slow down and explore its world is the key to avoiding its toughest roadblocks.

Crimson Desert Steam Player Count

Something especially impressive about Crimson Desert is how it has managed to maintain its player count on Steam. Even if a single-player game is wildly successful, its Steam player count tends to drop dramatically as players beat it and move on to other games. Crimson Desert, on the other hand, has enjoyed an incredible 24-hour peak of 232,044 players, hardly down from its all-time peak of 276,261. There are over 200,000 Steam users on Crimson Desert right now, and that number will likely grow later tonight. In short, Crimson Desert is proving to have more staying power on Steam than most other single-player games.

People simply enjoying Crimson Desert is likely the biggest reason why the game has seen such an incredible player count on Steam, but there are likely other factors at play as well. Another big factor is likely how long Crimson Desert takes to beat, with dozens of hours required to roll credits. And even then, that barely scratches the surface of what the game has to offer. Crimson Desert‘s length is ensuring people don’t quickly beat it and move on to other games, and that is likely doing wonders for its player count.

Another factor is almost certainly the frequency of Crimson Desert updates. It seems whenever the community flags an issue with the game, developer Pearl Abyss is immediately releasing a new Crimson Desert update to address those complaints. For example, there was recently some hubbub about Crimson Desert‘s storage and inventory space, and mere days after fans started complaining about it, a patch was released to address the issues.

More substantial Crimson Desert post-launch content and expansions are likely in the works in the wake of the game’s success, and they should do a lot to not only keep dedicated players engaged, but bring lapsed players back into the fold. Whether the game clicked with you personally or not, there’s no denying that Crimson Desert has a massive fanbase, and its Steam player count numbers are proof of that.
