During its financial results report, Pearl Abyss revealed good news for Crimson Desert players as it not only confirmed upcoming DLC, but a renewed effort to broaden the game to “the next level.” While the development period for Crimson Desert was longer than anticipated, with multiple delays, it’s hard to argue that it wasn’t worth it as the game has seen immense amounts of success after launching back in March.
Despite mixed reviews at launch and even a dip in the stock price, Crimson Desert proved to be a massive hit with players. While not a perfect experience at launch, Crimson Desert passed multiple sales milestones due in large part to strong word of mouth and a consistent number of updates from Pearl Abyss. The developer remains highly active after the game launched, taking in feedback and acting on it. While Crimson Desert has seen plenty of post-launch content additions, fans continue to wonder what else Pearl Abyss has up its sleeves and now, they finally have an idea.
Crimson Desert Releases New Update for May 2026
Crimson Desert receives a brand-new update in May 2026, bringing a highly anticipated feature alongside gameplay changes and a range of bug fixes.
Crimson Desert Confirms DLC Plans
Kicking off its financial results letter, Pearl Abyss confirmed that through the end of March, Crimson Desert brought in approximately 178.8 million and that sales were fairly evenly split between consoles and PC. Looking ahead, Pearl Abyss expects the revenue to soften a bit now that initial sales have come to an end, but is projecting that the game will still manage to pull in anywhere from $432.2-$514.4 million dollars. Based on these results, Crimson Desert remains on pace to be one of the best-selling games in 2026.
Fit the 9 games into the grid.
Part of maintaining the game’s stable performance throughout the rest of 2026 will be through the continuation of the impressive amount of support that Pearl Abyss continues to provide. In addition to updates and patches, Pearl Abyss teased that DLC is on the way, with the studio making plans to announce the content once “concrete plans are set.” Although no additional details were provided, fans have been eager for any sort of DLC confirmation as some players have speculated that certain out-of-bounds zones in Crimson Desert could be hinting at future content.
Pearl Abyss also plans to continue growing the game and driving new sales by focusing on enhancing player satisfaction, more updates, as well as what the studio termed as “platform expansion.” On paper, it would seem Pearl Abyss could be targeting the Switch 2, as Crimson Desert resides on the other major platforms already, with Nintendo’s console the only one remaining. While nothing is confirmed on that end, the report also went on to confirm that Pearl Abyss is also currently exploring various ways to broaden the game to the next level, but refrained from elaborating on what exactly that means.

Either way, it doesn’t appear that Pearl Abyss has any intention of deviating from the plan that has worked so well to this point. In fact, the lack of a content roadmap for Crimson Desert was intentional by Pearl Abyss, avoiding set-in-stone dates and presuming to know what the audience wanted. Instead, the studio decided to listen to its players to absorb feedback and keep an eye on the community to see how they played the game. In addition, the studio’s head of publishing even admitted that a good idea could come from anywhere and that Pearl Abyss isn’t too proud to accept other ideas.
