Pearl Abyss has officially pulled back the curtain on Crimson Desert‘s English voice cast, and it’s a lineup that’s far more stacked than some players may have initially realized. While the upcoming open-world game has primarily been marketed around its action-packed combat, interactive world, and seemingly endless content, the performers behind its central characters bring decades of experience from their roles in some of gaming’s biggest franchises.
From MMORPG veterans to actors who have lent their voices to big IPs like Xenoblade Chronicles and Dragon Age, as well as smaller-scale indie games like GreedFall and Absolum, Crimson Desert‘s cast is chock-full of talent. Below is a breakdown of who’s playing who, and more importantly, where you’ve likely heard them before.

At the center of it all is Alec Newman, who voices Crimson Desert‘s protagonist, Kliff. Newman is no stranger to video game roles, having appeared in games like Cyberpunk 2077, where he voiced Adam Smasher, as well as Final Fantasy 14, Dragon Age 2, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Star War: The Old Republic. For his portrayal of Kliff in Crimson Desert, Newman was “inspired by the voice and mannerisms of his wife’s stepfather, Graham Fleck, who died in 2022, not long after Newman took on the role,” according to a recent Epic Games Store interview with the actor.

Stewart Scudamore, who voices Oongka, brings a similarly extensive gaming background. His most well-known role could be Blackthorne, the blacksmith in Final Fantasy 16, but he also played the parts of Calgar in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Klaus in Lies of P: Overture, and Ai Nengqi in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Even if they don’t immediately recognize Scudamore’s name, players who follow modern RPG and action games have almost certainly encountered his work before, meaning his role as Oongka in Crimson Desert likely means he won’t simply be a side character.
Among Crimson Desert‘s main cast, however, Rebecca Hanssen may be the most recognizable name, as she has voiced some of the biggest characters in recent AAA releases. Hanssen played EVE in Stellar Blade, as well as Olivia Jablonski in Dying Light: The Beast and several characters from Baldur’s Gate 3. In Crimson Desert, she voices Damiane, a character who has already sparked interest among fans speculating about the game’s narrative.
Peter Bramhill, who plays Yann in Crimson Desert, is probably best known for his role as Thancred Waters in Final Fantasy 14. Across multiple expansions, Thancred has evolved significantly, giving Bramhill the opportunity to explore his character on a much broader scope than some voice actors in gaming are afforded. Beyond Final Fantasy 14, he has appeared in Xenoblade Chronicles, Dragon Age: Origins, and various other titles.
Emily Barber voices Naira in Crimson Desert, and while her gaming resume is still growing compared to some of her co-stars, her role in the upcoming action game gives her a chance to get a big foot in the door. Her most recent role was that of Galandra, one of the playable characters in Absolum, and the first one who is introduced to players.
Finally, Alastair Parker rounds out the cast of Crimson Desert as Myurdin. He previously voiced Blackwall in Dragon Age: Inquisition, but he has also appeared in games like GreedFall and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, among others. His experience portraying characters who operate in morally gray spaces could prove especially valuable in a game that appears to lean heavily into political tension and shifting loyalties.
With Crimson Desert seemingly hoping to lean into its story just as much as its combat and open world, it will need a cast of talented voice actors who can make that story memorable and engaging. As such, performers like its own who have proven track records in RPGs, open-world games, and character-driven narratives are a must. If nothing else, the cast list suggests that Pearl Abyss understands how critical performance is to selling the scale and emotional weight of a new fantasy epic.
