An upcoming Steam game named Dinoblade is putting a dinosaur spin on the Soulslike genre. The PC title is set to release on July 23, 2026, but with a free demo available right now, gamers have the opportunity to try it out before its official launch date.
Games like Dinoblade are a shining example of why indie games are often more interesting than their AAA counterparts. Indie developers can often take bigger risks with their features. This high-risk, high-reward approach can make for some extremely unique end products. It doesn’t always work, but when it does, the end product benefits massively.

It’s hard to believe that these indie games were made by smaller teams when they showcase AAA quality.
Dinoblade Looks Like Dark Souls With Dinosaurs, and You Can Play The Demo Right Now
Developer Jean Nguyen of Team Spino posted a clip of Dinoblade on X, revealing how he “spent years turning a silly animation idea into a full game.” The Dark Souls influence here is clear, with timed parry combat against difficult boss fights. The hook is that both the player character Spinosaurus and their enemies are dinosaurs, which fight using gigantic swords in their mouths. It looks hilarious, but the gameplay looks solid. The game is poised to drop on PC on July 23, but pre-orders are not yet open at the time of writing.
The dinosaur game’s Steam page offers a little more insight into what to expect from Dinoblade. It reveals that players will “Step into the role of a young Spinosaurus, wielding a colossal Great Sword forged from ancient power.” They’ll explore a world filled with a variety of biomes and face off against rival dinosaurs, with skills and abilities alongside classic soulslike combat.
