Destiny 2 Announces New Community Challenge and Reward

Bungie reveals The Dark Age Hunt community challenge for Destiny 2, set to go live during the upcoming Arms Week and tasking players to put down all of those Star Wars blasters in favor of something a little more old school. Destiny 2 finds itself in an interesting place heading into 2026 as attention has seemingly turned to Bungie’s next upcoming game, Marathon. Without a roadmap for 2026, many fans are wondering what direction Destiny 2 is planning to go later this year.

After being re-revealed late last year, the extraction shooter Marathon has seemingly stolen the spotlight from Destiny 2, which continues to see declining players, even after a well-received expansion in Renegades. Worse yet, the planned big Destiny 2 update called Shadow and Order has reportedly been delayed as it was originally set to launch 2 days before Marathon on March 3. However, to give Marathon the full attention of players, reports have indicated that Destiny 2 fans will have to wait a bit longer to play through the new content.

Marathon Update Fixes Bizarre Destiny 2 Preorder Bug

Bungie confirms a new backend update for Marathon, resolving a very bizarre preorder bug that involved the studio’s other game, Destiny 2.

While there may not be a big content update on the horizon, Bungie is attempting to keep players invested with limited-time events coming and going. As players continue to wonder when Iron Banner will make its return, Bungie is kicking off a new Arms Week event in Destiny 2, with the focus this time being on bows. However, once Arms Week arrives on January 27, players will also have a limited time to take part in a special community challenge called The Dark Age Hunt.

In the weekly blog, Bungie’s community team laid out the challenge for players, which runs for only a week from January 27 to February 3. During this time, players will need to head to the Warlord’s Ruin dungeon and run a specific loadout that would complete the “Cut with Dark Age Steel, O Vengeance Mine” triumph. This means Bows, Glaives, and Swords only, along with abilities and even movement techniques like skating or warping with Eager Edge swords. However, the twist here is that it needs to be done solo and in one go, so no warping back to orbit between each encounter. Thankfully, players don’t need to go flawless, so falling and reviving during the encounter is fine.

To keep things fair, Bungie confirmed that completions will be tracked internally, so players don’t need to record or submit anything online. However, for those who are able to complete the challenge during the timeframe, they’ll earn the rare and unique-looking emblem known as Fallen Torches. The emblem features a stone wall, illuminated by a nearby lit up torch with missing sections still appearing to be on fire further across the emblem.

For better or worse, it seems events like these are what will power Destiny 2 across the next month or two until Bungie can settle on a new date for Shadow and Order. Unfortunately, the Destiny 2 content calendar for Renegades was fairly limited, only highlighting many features that have already arrived, like Vanguard Alerts, as well as a rotating list of weekly modifiers or events. The original Year of Prophecy roadmap didn’t do much better in terms of details or information, originally confirming the March 3 date for Shadow and Order and then nothing else beyond that. Fans are hopeful that Bungie will reveal its plans for Destiny 2 sooner or later to give players an idea of what to expect long term.
