Dev Behind FPS With Half-Life Vibes Apologizes For Bad Reviews

Industria 2‘s announcement back in 2024 excited a small but passionate group of fans who enjoyed the original game, an atmospheric shooter set in an alternate Cold War East Germany. The trailer looked like “Half-Life and SOMA” had a baby, one player wrote. This week, the game finally came out on Steam, and no one’s happy, including the team behind the sequel, Bleakmill.

“It hurts to be sitting at 48 percent positive ratings after putting all our hearts and souls into this game over 4 years,” the creators of the game posted on X. “So much struggle, joy and difficulties our tiny team has overcome.” Still, the developers called the poor reviews on Steam “fair” and said they were working to get patches out fast to fix bugs and stability issues, with promises of updated content down the road.

On that note: got 2 patches out last night, fixing saving issues and a softlock. Focusing on stability and keybind issues next. Then more content updates.

Industria 1 came out in 2021 and garnered decent Steam reviews and seemed to sell well. It was short but sweet and reminded players of some of the vibes they loved from games like Half-Life. Bleakmills wasn’t able to repeat that same reaction with Industria 2. Since its April 29 release on PC, players have been calling the sequel “half-baked” and “unfinished,” with some even accusing publisher Headup Games of forcing the developers to rush the game out. Headup also published the first game, but was sold by Thunderful Group Microcuts Holding in 2024.

But other developers have been trying to cheer up the team at Bleakmill. “There’s not a huge number of reviews yet and many seem amicable to flip once things are patched, so I think it’s entirely possible to recover from this launch,” wrote Gloomwood designer Dillon Rogers. “It’s an uphill climb after no doubt an exhausting sprint to launch, so I feel for you guys. Hang in there.”

Garry’s Mod maker Garry Newman was more blunt, simply sharing the “first time?” meme from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
