Diablo 4 Finally Reveals Neyrelle’s Fate in Lord of Hatred

Diablo 4 Finally Reveals Neyrelle’s Fate in Lord of Hatred

Spoilers for Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred follow.

Diablo 4 just revealed the opening cinematic for Lord of Hatred, wherein Neyrelle spreads word of Mephisto’s weakness at the cost of her own life. The magpie of Diablo 4 may not be alive to help The Wanderer in Lord of Hatred directly, but her last message should give them what they need to bring Mephisto down once and for all.

Neyrelle is a major character players meet in Diablo 4, and one of their staunchest allies. During the base game, she aids The Wanderer in opposing Lilith and becomes a student of the Horadric sage Lorath Nahr. In Vessel of Hatred, she steals the Soulstone of Mephisto and flees to Nahantu in hopes of destroying him for good. She ultimately fails to do so; Mephisto is freed, though she miraculously survives the endeavor of bearing his Soulstone without becoming the new vessel, unlike heroes such as Aidan and Tal Rasha.

April 23 is Going to Be a Big Day for Diablo 4

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred is right around the corner, but fans excited for the expansion might want to circle April 23 on their calendars, too.

Neyrelle Dies in D4: Lord of Hatred to Reveal Mephisto’s Weakness

Unfortunately, despite making it through Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, Neyrelle’s story is coming to an end in Lord of Hatred. Diablo 4 recently shared the opening cinematic of Lord of Hatred, which stars Neyrelle, as Mephisto puts even more pressure on the young scholar in an attempt to break her. He appears before her in the guise of Akarat and attempts to corrupt her, though she rebukes him. She then reveals that, while their minds were connected, she discovered a prophecy of a Spear of Light that would be his downfall:

“And the weak were made strong. The pack of lambs would feast on their shepherd. Then comes a spear of light, piercing Hatred’s heart, razed to the ground by a murdered son…”

Upon hearing these words, the calm and unflappable Great Evil loses his cool, commanding Neyrelle to stop, accidentally and unceremoniously killing her in the process. Mephisto briefly mourns failing to turn her, though he is clearly shaken as he sees how much of this prophecy of his doom she had discovered. The cinematic ends with him burning Neyrelle’s research, while a bird carries word of the Lord of Hatred’s weakness to Lorath and the Wanderer in the Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred region of Skovos.

It is clear Mephisto is going all out in this expansion. Judging from the first 12 minutes of Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, fans will have to contend not only with his demonic minions and cultists but also with the followers of Akarat, whom he has duped. However, thanks to Neyrelle’s sacrifice, The Wanderer has a lead on how to stop him once and for all. That said, they will need to work with Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred and antagonist of the base game, in order to obtain this prophesied weapon, which is likely connected to her.

Though Neyrelle is gone, it is still possible that players may see her in some form, even if it is just as a ghost, vision, or memory. Fans will have to check out Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred when it releases on April 28 to see how Neyrelle’s sacrifice is felt in the narrative – and to find out if Lorath Nahr, one of the few living allies The Wanderer has left, makes it to the end of the Age of Hatred.
