Blizzard has unveiled some of the new additions and major changes coming to Diablo 4 in Season 14. One of the headlining changes coming in version 3.1 is a drastic overhaul to Diablo 4‘s incredibly rare Mythic Unique items. While Season 14 doesn’t officially start until the end of June, players can test out these changes on the PTR between June 2 and June 9.
Season 14 will be the first post-Lord of Hatred season for Diablo 4, so a lot is riding on the seasonal content to provide a worthwhile experience in the wake of the popular expansion that saw the introduction of several fan-favorite features. Blizzard has already confirmed that a few of the biggest complaints with Lord of Hatred are being addressed in this update, including an increase to the number of Obols players can hold and the addition of seamless party play for War Plans. It remains to be seen how these changes to Mythics will affect Diablo 4‘s builds and power creep, but the 3.1 PTR should give players a good idea of how Season 14 will play out.

Diablo 4 Patch 3.1 Lets Any Unique Become a Mythic
As part of Diablo 4‘s “Mythics 3.0” change coming in the next major update, Mythics will no longer be considered a rarity but a modifiable item quality instead. This change makes it so any Diablo 4 Unique can theoretically be turned into a Mythic version of that Unique item using the new Pandemonium Fragment materials in the Horadric Cube. Doing so boosts the Unique’s effect by 30%, giving players a more powerful version of the item than has been possible in previous seasons.

Diablo 4 Season 14 is also giving players even more ways to obtain Mythics, such as by progressing the seasonal reputation board to earn Pandemonium Fragments, defeating the new seasonal Lair Boss, Corrupted Reaper, progressing through the Seasonal Rank system, and players will also have a greater chance of finding Mythic Uniques where Ancestral Uniques would typically drop. It’s unclear if the current slate of Mythic rarity items will have the chance to drop as a standard Unique.
Diablo 4 will only let players equip one crafted Mythic Unique at a time. However, players can have multiple Mythic Uniques found via drops on their build at a given time.
In addition to every Unique having the potential to become a Mythic, the 3.1 patch for Diablo 4 improves the customization of all Uniques within the Horadric Cube. Currently, Diablo 4 doesn’t allow players to modify or reroll affixes on Unique items. However, patch 3.1 allows Uniques to use the Focused and Chaotic Reroll recipes, while Unique Amulets and Non-Ancestral Uniques will be able to have their Unique Power rerolled.

These changes should give Diablo 4 players more freedom to customize their gear however it best suits their desired build, and will likely take some of the hassle out of farming for Unique duplicates just to reroll a Unique affix using the Horadric Cube’s 3-to-1 recipe. However, the jury is still out on whether the move from Mythic being a rarity to an item quality will improve builds or just remove those game-changing chase items. Players can try out the 3.1 PTR build from June 2 to June 9 to decide for themselves.
