Diablo 4’s latest patch fixed a number of bugs, including one that is now allowing players to become near immortal by stacking Resolve.
Tucked away in the lengthy patch notes for update 3.0.2 is one, unassuming change for the Paladin’s Aspect of Glynn’s Anvil. Lord of Hatred’s launch seemingly broke the aspect, causing it to not properly increase damage reduction based on stacks of Resolve. As of May 13, that’s been fixed.
While the fix is listed as a Paladin change, the aspect is actually usable by every class except for Sorcerer and Warlock. Now that it’s fixed, players have found that imprinting Glynn’s Anvil on a piece of gear and then proceeding to Temper as many + Maximum Resolve stacks as possible on items results in a toughness rating in the millions.
It’s all due to Glynn’s Anvil’s new, actually functioning legendary affix. At max rank, Glynn’s Anvil grants 4% damage reduction per stack of Resolve. As long as players have a reliable way to generate Resolve stacks (of which there are several), it’s easy to cruise around Sanctuary with 50 stacks or more, essentially becoming unkillable with 200% damage reduction.
Given that Diablo 4 now has 12 Torment tiers and a much higher difficulty ceiling, being able to become practically invincible is certainly appealing. It allows players to push The Pit to its max difficulty and play on Torment 12, where all the best gear, XP, and gold rewards can be found, with no fear of dying.
It’s not exactly clear if this is a bug or not. Resolve stacking isn’t exactly new, though this interaction with Glynn’s Anvil is and the amount of Resolve that can be stacked could be an oversight on Blizzard’s part. That being said, stacking Resolve also isn’t always a sure bet, as some sources of Resolve generation don’t work in certain scenarios, like boss fights.
Regardless, the new Resolve stacking meta is already taking shape, with popular Diablo content creators like Wudijo calling attention to it. That raises the question of whether or not Blizzard will take quick action to bring Resolve stacking and Glynn’s Anvil down a peg, or let it ride for at least the end of the current season.
In other Diablo 4 news, the hunt for the game’s elusive cow level has come to an end, only to kick off the search for an even more mysterious cow god. As for the new Lord of Hatred expansion, players are still digesting what it means for the future of the series, as players debate the redesigned skill trees and analyze its story for clues as to when Diablo himself may make an appearance.
