Diablo 4’s Paladin is Already The Gift That Keeps on Giving, But There’s Still 1 Thing Left on My Christmas List

Diablo 4’s Paladin is Already The Gift That Keeps on Giving, But There’s Still 1 Thing Left on My Christmas List

Like many other Diablo 4 players, the addition of the Paladin class was at the top of my wish list for the game. With a new expansion on the horizon in 2026, I was sure we’d see the Paladin announced for Diablo 4 sooner or later, but I couldn’t have predicted that the class would drop day-and-date with Season 11 as a pre-order bonus for the Lord of Hatred DLC. While Christmas definitely came early for me and other fans eagerly anticipating the Paladin’s addition to the game, there’s still one item left on my wish list that would be a Christmas miracle if it came true.

It’s hard to complain too much, given how well Diablo 4 Season 11 has been treating me so far. Not only has the Paladin been a breath of fresh air in a game that has felt somewhat stagnant throughout 2025, but the overhauls to gear upgrading, the return of Capstone Dungeons, and improved combat with new enemy types have made Diablo 4 feel like the experience I wanted it to be at launch. However, Diablo 4 is now in a great position to do something it likely couldn’t have pulled off at launch: release on a Nintendo console.

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred’s Release Would Be Incomplete without a Nintendo Switch 2 Version

While I currently play Diablo 4 on PC via Battle.net, I am itching for a way to play the game portably. Diablo 4 already has cross-progression for players who own the game on both PC and console, and is also Steam Deck verified. However, releasing the game on the Switch 2 would allow me to play Diablo 4 on my PC, my TV, and on a handheld, giving me the ultimate freedom to play the game wherever I want.

Diablo Already Has a Strong History with Nintendo

  • Diablo 3: Eternal Collection (Nintendo Switch) — 2018
  • Diablo 2: Resurrected — 2021

Diablo 4 coming to the Switch 2 isn’t as strange as it might seem, as the franchise has been on a roll with Nintendo releases in recent years. Diablo 3: Eternal Collection was released on the Switch in 2018, which was then followed by Diablo 2: Resurrected coming to the console in 2021. I played both of these versions on my Switch and found the portability and control schemes to be perfect for the franchise. The original Switch may not have been powerful enough to handle Diablo 4 when the game launched back in 2023, but the release of the Switch 2 earlier this year is the hardware upgrade Nintendo fans needed to finally make Diablo 4 accessible.

The Switch 2’s Mouse Controls Are Perfect for Diablo 4

As much as I enjoyed using the Switch’s Joy-Cons for Diablo 3 and Diablo 2: Resurrected, the Switch 2’s option to use a Joy-Con as a mouse would make Diablo 4 on the console far more versatile. I would likely use the mouse controls while playing on my TV, since it’s easier to set up the controller on my living room table. Having the option to use the Joy-Cons as traditional controllers as well when playing in handheld mode from my bed would essentially let me get the best of both worlds, so I know I would definitely double-dip on Diablo 4 if it were released on the Switch 2.

Lord of Hatred Would Be the Perfect Opportunity for Switch 2 Players to Jump On Board

With the start of Diablo 4 Season 11, the game is arguably in the best place it has been since launch. This makes it a great time for new players to jump into the game for the first time, especially with the release of Lord of Hatred right around the corner. A Switch 2 release could bring a whole new group of fans into the fold, and these players would be able to access basically everything Diablo 4 has to offer right from the start.

Ideally, Diablo 4 would release on the Switch 2 simultaneously with the launch of Lord of Hatred. Doing so would allow the game to be bundled with the expansion all in one package, since Lord of Hatred already includes access to the Vessel of Hatred expansion as well. Giving Nintendo Switch 2 owners this full package at launch would be a great way to entice players to pick up this version, but an additional Nintendo-themed cosmetic bundle like the Ganondorf armor set that was exclusive to the Switch version of Diablo 3: Eternal Collection would be the icing on the cake. Christmas is fast approaching, and I would love for Blizzard to give me one more gift by announcing a Switch 2 Edition of Diablo 4.
