Disney Game Is Shutting Down

Disney Heroes: Battle Mode is shutting down in May 2026. The long-running Disney game is on course to mark its eighth anniversary shortly beforehand.

Developed by Madison, Wisconsin-based PerBlue Entertainment, Disney Heroes: Battle Mode is a crossover RPG where players assemble squads of iconic characters and use them to fight forces of evil in a bid to save a city simply called “The City.” It was originally soft-launched in February 2018 before receiving an international release for Android and iOS devices three months later.

PerBlue Announces Shutdown Plans for Disney Heroes: Battle Mode

Just ahead of the game’s eighth anniversary, PerBlue revealed that its mobile RPG is no longer long for this world. The April 3 patch notes attached to the game’s latest update, version 7.11, confirm that Disney Heroes: Battle Mode is now officially in the process of being shut down. The Wisconsin developer called this a “difficult decision” and thanked players for their support over the years. “For many of us at the studio, this project carried a deep sense of nostalgia, one rooted in childhood memories that stayed with us throughout development,” the company said in a prepared statement.

PerBlue’s sunsetting roadmap is being implemented in two stages. Phase one is scheduled for April 30, 2026, when Disney Heroes: Battle Mode will be delisted from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. In-app purchases will also be disabled that day. The Disney mobile game will remain playable for users who already have it installed until May 31, 2026, when its servers are scheduled to shut down for good. PerBlue also plans to retire the official Disney Heroes: Battle Mode Discord server on May 31. The platform was primarily used for technical support and community announcements, meaning it would not serve much purpose after the game itself is shut down.

PerBlue’s mobile RPG amassed one of the largest Disney character rosters in gaming. As of April 2026, Disney Heroes: Battle Mode features more than 250 playable characters drawn from Aladdin, The Incredibles, Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Ratatouille, Cars, Zootopia, The Little Mermaid, Robin Hood, Sleeping Beauty, DuckTales, and Pirates of the Caribbean, among dozens of other properties. The newly debuted 7.11 update introduces three more heroes: Benjamin Gates from National Treasure, Scuttle from The Little Mermaid, and Mowgli from The Jungle Book, suggesting the shutdown decision was made relatively late in the game’s lifecycle.

According to Sensor Tower estimates, Disney Heroes: Battle Mode logged between 10 million and 50 million installs on the Google Play Store alone since 2018. Although the game is now being sunset, it still showed some user activity across both major mobile platforms, with Sensor Tower estimating 10,000 Android installs and 7,000 iOS downloads over the 30-day period starting in early March 2026. The sunsetting announcement nonetheless suggests the title’s revenue had fallen to nominal levels despite that remaining engagement, a pattern often seen among live-service mobile games just ahead of their shutdowns.
