Divinity Studio Hosting AMA About GenAI Dev Usage This Week

Divinity Studio Hosting AMA About GenAI Dev Usage This Week

Larian Studios has officially scheduled a Divinity AMA to take place on the r/Games subreddit on January 9. During this period, developers from Larian Studios will field questions pertaining to Divinity, its development process, and how generative AI has been used, if at all.

In the months leading up to The Game Awards 2025, Geoff Keighley’s mysterious statue in the Mojave Desert led to no small amount of speculation, including that it could be a teaser for the next Diablo 4 expansion. However, while Blizzard did in fact reveal Lord of Terror, the statue itself was actually related to Divinity, Larian Studios’ next big CRPG. Set in the world of Rivellon from Divinity: Original Sin 2, Divinity is a spiritual successor to both it and Baldur’s Gate 3 in a big way, though little is known about the game as a whole so far.

Do You Need to Play the Old Divinity Games Before the New One? Larian Itself Weighs In

Many RPG fans want to know whether they need to play the older games before jumping into Larian Studios’ upcoming Divinity, and here’s answer.

Larian Studios Divinity and GenAI AMA on January 9

Soon, gamers are going to get a chance to take a peek behind the curtain. Larian Studios just announced that an AMA will take place on January 9 at 5 AM PT/8 AM ET, during which fans can ask questions about Divinity and the studio’s development process. The Q&A will happen on the r/Games subreddit, allowing anyone with a Reddit account to pose questions in the hope there will be time to answer them.

It may seem like this AMA is happening pretty early for gamers in the US, especially on the West Coast, but that is because Larian Studios is headquartered in Belgium, meaning it will be 2 PM (CET) there. It is unclear exactly how long the AMA will last, so fans hoping to ask a question might want to prep their query ahead of time, get up briefly to post it, and then check for an answer after they officially wake up.

While it is not uncommon for developers to hold AMAs for upcoming games like this, Larian Studios is doing so for a specific reason. On December 16, 2025, renowned Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier shared an interview he had done with Larian Studios’ Swen Vincke in which the CEO revealed the developers were using generative AI in the early stages of making Divinity. This event triggered a wildfire of controversy and concern across the internet, with some players threatening to boycott of the upcoming title.

It was not long before Vincke responded to the allegations in an attempt to clarify his words, but fans were still not appeased. On December 21, Larian Studios confirmed plans to hold a Q&A addressing these concerns and more after the new year, leading to the Reddit AMA scheduled for January 9. Needless to say, gamers shouldn’t be surprised if there are more than a few questions about this controversial topic during the event.

All Eyes Are On Larian Studios Right Now

Larian says Divinity will not be Baldur's Gate 4 Image via Larian Studios

It is not an exaggeration to say that Larian Studios is at a critical juncture right now. The indie studio had a cult following during the era of Divinity: Original Sin 2, but after Baldur’s Gate 3 knocked it out of the park and won Game of the Year in 2023, Larian Studios became one of the new darlings of the industry. This generative AI scandal has rocked the community’s hard-earned trust in the company for now, but it is not too late for it to redeem itself.

Regardless, Divinity is going to be a make-or-break title for Larian Studios. The developers have created a massive pair of shoes for Divinity to fill with Baldur’s Gate 3, and only time will tell if it will be able to do so.
