Dragon’s Dogma 2 Removing Deluxe Edition and Content Packs From Sale

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Removing Deluxe Edition and Content Packs From Sale

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is discontinuing its Deluxe Edition and a good portion of its DLC, meaning that from June 24, players will no longer be able to purchase that content. Interestingly, many of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLCs being delisted are microtransactions that caused controversy just prior to the game’s launch in March 2024.

Developed by Capcom and released 12 years after the original cult hit fantasy action-RPG, Dragon’s Dogma 2 was lauded by critics at launch, with the game earning a Top Critic Average of 87 on OpenCritic. Practically since launch, many fans wondered if Dragon’s Dogma 2 would receive some kind of major expansion or overhaul, just as the 2012 original did with its upgraded ‘Dark Arisen’ version. Fans finally got their wish during the most recent Nintendo Direct, where Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen was confirmed to be launching on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on October 9.

Why Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deserves a Sequel Sooner Rather Than Later

Dragon’s Dogma 2 may have only recently been released, but it needs to get a sequel sooner rather than later due to its unofficial remake status.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Is Delisting its Deluxe Edition and Microtransactions

Announced via a Twitter post, the Deluxe Edition of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is being delisted alongside a slew of DLC. The full list of soon-to-be-delisted Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLCs is as follows:

  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition
  • A Boon for Adventurers – New Journey Pack
  • Harpysnare Smoke Beacons – Harpy Lure Item
  • Heartfelt Pendant – A Thoughtful Gift
  • Ambivalent Rift Incense – Change Pawn Inclinations
  • Makeshift Gaol Key – Escape from Gaol
  • Art of Metamorphosis – Character Editor
  • Portcrystal – Warp Location Marker
  • Wakestone – Restore the Dead to Life
  • 500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
  • 1500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
  • 2500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift

All of these DLC items are set to be removed from storefronts on June 24 at 5pm PT / 8pm ET. According to the official Twitter announcement, this is being done in order “to prepare for the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen” and to make way for the “additional content and various adjustments” that the upcoming title update is bringing to the table. It’s important to note, however, that any and all of the content listed above can still be used by those who have already purchased it even after June 24.

While the majority of Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s DLC is being delisted, two add-ons will still be available to purchase after June 24. These are the Explorer’s Camping Kit DLC and the Dragon’s Dogma Music & Sound Collection. While the latter DLC swaps some sound effects and musical themes for those used in the original Dragon’s Dogma, the Explorer’s Camping Kit simply offers a different type of camp for players to use right away, which, as many in the DLC’s Steam reviews section have pointed out, is a bit redundant given that players can just use in-game gold to purchase a more efficient camping kit early in the game.

Mere days before Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s March 2024 launch, the long-awaited fantasy RPG sequel drew ire for its microtransactions, many of which are being removed in this upcoming update. At the time, it seemed as though Capcom was charging players for basic features such as post-character creation customization and some key Pawn-related features. In truth, these items could be obtained easily through gameplay, with virtually no grinding necessary. Regardless, any Dragon’s Dogma 2 newcomers won’t even know these microtransactions ever existed.
