Gears of War: E-Day is officially set to launch this year, and series fans might be getting the franchise’s longest campaign ever when the game launches. The anticipation surrounding Gears of War: E-Day has continued to build ever since the first trailer premiered back in 2024, as Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return in what looks to be one of the series’ most harrowing chapters yet.
Fans who have been eager to learn more details about the prequel got a big update at the recent Xbox Games Showcase. Developer The Coalition revealed several minutes of gameplay footage, and the preview even revealed an official Gears of War: E-Day release date. The game will be added to the already stacked early fall lineup, putting it up against stiff competition. There are a lot of gamers excited about Gears of War: E-Day, though, and it sounds like they will be getting a lot more hours of content compared to past entries.
Gears of War: E-Day’s Campaign is Reported to Be Over 14 Hours Long
Gears of War: E-Day Creative Director Matt Searcy recently spoke with IGN about what the game would have in store for players, with one of the most interesting notes being his claims that it would be “longer than any campaign The Coalition has built.” Searcy stated that the campaign runs over 14 hours long and features a robust offering of collectibles. The length of every Gears of War game has varied over the years, but a 14-hour-long campaign would definitely make E-Day the longest one on the list.

The current record holder for the longest Gears of War campaign is Gears 5. It runs around 10 to 12 hours when it comes to focusing on the main story, but that can be stretched out even longer when diving into the extra content. If Gears of War: E-Day‘s story alone is 14 hours long, then it’s going to be interesting to see how many more hours will be added to the play time for fans who like to complete 100% of a game’s content.
Searcy shared a few more details about Gears of War: E-Day that were just as intriguing, like some levels being more open, despite the game having a linear structure. The gameplay preview also revealed a few big changes to mechanics. Jumping and sliding are being added to the equation, which is going to bring even more dynamic movement. Even though new mechanics are introduced, E-Day still features the iconic Gears of War cover mechanics that have been a staple of the franchise.

When Gears of War: E-Day gets here in October, it will be exciting to find out exactly how long the main campaign ends up being. The Xbox Games Showcase preview promised plenty of dramatic action. Also, now that it’s been confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day is an Xbox exclusive, this prequel is marking an exciting new era for both the series and the company. Gears of War is one of Xbox’s most beloved franchises, and it’s going to be fascinating to see what it has to offer Xbox diehards.
