EA Confirms Battlefield Game is Shutting Down on Consoles on June 22

EA Confirms Battlefield Game is Shutting Down on Consoles on June 22

EA has confirmed that Battlefield Hardline is shutting down on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. On June 22, the Battlefield Hardline multiplayer servers will go down on PS4 and Xbox One, following in the footsteps of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions in 2024.

Battlefield Hardline was released in 2015 as a spin-off of the main series, and was the final title developed by the now-defunct Visceral Games. Where the mainline games focus on military combat, Battlefield Hardline put a fresh spin on the formula, taking a step back to deliver a “cops and robbers” title that felt much smaller in scale than its predecessors. While it was an interesting idea, Battlefield Hardline was met with mixed reviews from critics, many of whom felt it suffered in its attempts to differentiate itself from the main series.

The first-person shooter Battlefield 1 is currently seeing a significant increase in player numbers on Steam, nearly a decade after its release.

Battlefield Hardline is Shutting Down on June 22 for PS4 and Xbox One

In a statement posted to X, EA confirmed that Battlefield Hardline‘s servers are going offline on June 22 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game and its DLC will also be delisted from digital storefronts a month earlier, on May 22. After its servers go offline, its multiplayer will officially be dead on consoles, following the shutdown of Battlefield Hardline on PS3 and Xbox 360 in November 2024. The single-player components of the game will remain fully playable for those who already own it. This latest update will not affect the PC version of the game, either, so those who want to continue playing can do so on that platform.

Battlefield Hardline becomes the latest game in the series to suffer a shutdown at the hands of EA. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Battlefield 3 and 4 were taken offline at the same time as Hardline in November 2024, while specific versions of other games such as Battlefield 1943, Bad Company, and Bad Company 2 were all shut down in December 2023. Although EA does tend to wait until Battlefield games are largely dead before killing their multiplayer servers, it’s still very sad news for those who still played from time to time.

Those expecting any comeback for the Hardline name in the future are likely to be disappointed. In 2024, Battlefield Hardline‘s lead multiplayer designer revealed that several factors stopped EA from greenlighting a sequel, namely lower-than-expected sales figures. It’s impossible to rule out the possibility that the series will return to the “cops and robbers” theme in the future, but it feels extremely unlikely.

EA has a long history of shutting down its inactive multiplayer titles. The publisher shut down 23 games in 2025, rendering their multiplayer aspects permanently unavailable. It’s always a massive disappointment when these games disappear, as there often isn’t a community solution to keep them alive in other ways. Fans can at least take some solace in the fact that Battlefield Hardline‘s servers are still alive on PC, even if the player count is limited nowadays.
