Elden Ring DLC Brings Back A Beloved Dark Souls 2 Character

Elden Ring DLC Brings Back A Beloved Dark Souls 2 Character

Elden Ring just got a major patch alongside its new “Tarnished Edition,” an updated version of the game for Nintendo Switch 2 that you can get on every other platform with a $5 upgrade. You don’t have to pay money for the various buffs and nerfs in the patch, but the paid upgrade does get you some horse cosmetics and four new sets of armor for your character, including a set both inspired by, and dropped by, a familiar face from, of all things, 2014’s Dark Souls 2.

Two of the new armor sets are attached to two of the new starting classes in the game, the Heavy Knight and the Idus Knight. The other two are found out in the world, and one is in the hands of a character named Knight Leontiel. Knight Leontiel is a newly added invader who shows up in Starscourge Radahn’s battle arena after he’s defeated. You can encounter her by running north from the Site of Grace and continuing toward the catacombs until you’re automatically dismounted from your horse, and she invades.

She’s not too tough to beat, especially if you’ve already finished the game and/or its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and the rewards are worth it. You get her full set of armor: her Greatsword, legs, chest, helm, and greaves. It looks like this:

So who is Leontiel? Well, no one, but if you’ve played Dark Souls 2, you might recall a Lucetiel of Mirrah who wore something awfully similar to this. Lucatiel wears a toreador outfit and hat similar to this set, wields a greatsword, and even has a mask attached to her hat just like this one. It’s not clear why her name is slightly different in Elden Ring, even though it’s fairly obvious that that’s who this is supposed to invoke. In fact, it’s almost a little sad. In Dark Souls 2, she asks the player to remember her name before she goes Hollow, because she may not remember it herself. Whatever circumstances put her into Elden Ring, her name wasn’t accurately remembered. Tragedy!

What I love most about this set is its L2 ability. Leontiel has a greatsword, which doesn’t really make much room for carrying a shield alongside, but its L2 lets you use her cape like a bullfighter, and you’ll flourish it as you attack. Someone’s already shown off the full set’s capabilities against none other than Malenia, Blade of Miquella:

What’s even cooler is that if you haven’t beaten Radahn yet, her summon sign will appear with all the others, and you can call on her to assist in battle before you kick her ass yourself and take her sword and hat. All’s fair in war and war, I suppose.

Remember, if you’re having trouble finding Leontiel, you do need to have purchased the Tarnished Edition DLC if you don’t already own it. Switch 2 players will have Leontiel baked in automatically, as they’re already on the Tarnished Edition. Also, be aware that if you’ve already reached near the end of Elden Ring and taken an action that dramatically changes Leyndell’s whole vibe (you know the one), then you won’t be able to get the fourth and final set of armor: the Broken Golden Mask set.
