Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is one of the most high-profile ports Nintendo has for the Switch 2, and it was also reportedly one of the worst-running games on the device when folks played it at last year’s Gamescom, to the point where publisher Bandai Namco was prohibiting people from posting footage of their time with the game online. Well, after a delay for polish, FromSoftware’s acclaimed RPG finally has a Switch 2 release date, and it’s fairly soon.
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have announced that Elden Ring will come to Switch 2 on August 28. That puts it at a little over 14 months after the Switch 2’s launch last year. Kotaku’s Rebekah Valentine was able to get some hands-on time with a more recent build of the game at this year’s Game Developers Conference in March, and said the port was “extremely fine” and “did not run like shit.” Honestly, once you get past the novelty of playing on a handheld, that’s all you really want from a port, right?

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will include both the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, as well as some cosmetics that haven’t been released on other platforms yet. The armor, weapons, and customization features will eventually come to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox in the future.
The Switch 2’s still getting some old games ported to it after a year on the market, and broadly they seem to be holding up pretty well, with a few notable rough launches that had to be patched. Cyberpunk 2077 was an impressive port at launch, but then we also got things like the Skyrim port that had to be hammered out post-launch. Some companies are still holding back their bigger games from the system like Gearbox with Borderlands 4, while Capcom seems to be thriving on the device with its Resident Evil ports.
