Epic Games Store Users Have Less Than 24 Hours to Claim 2 Games Completely Free of Charge

Limited-time deals for cheap or free games are everywhere, but life is life and sometimes it’s hard to hop on deals as soon as they happen. After all, some of the best free games on PC are often only free for a few days at most. Both Steam and Epic Games Store offer players free games, with the latter being the more consistent of the two. That’s to say, Epic Games Store users have 24 hours to claim the latest two games.

The Epic Games Store is more consistent because it is more reliable, with Steam’s selection of free games rotating in and out at random dates and times. Meanwhile, the Epic Games Store has made a couple of games free every Thursday at 10 am CT (8 am PT/11 am ET) for years. That doesn’t necessarily speak to the quality of games, but for the current EGS offerings, they are worth picking up for cyberpunk, noir, and/or detective game fans.

PC Gamers Have Until March 4 to Get $134 Worth of Games for Just $12

Gamers looking for something new can grab a Steam bundle worth over $100 for just $12 right now as part of a limited-time deal.

On February 12, the Epic Games Store made Nobody Wants to Die and The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark free for the week. These will no longer be available as of 10 am CT on Thursday, February 19—just 24 hours as of this writing. The Darkside Detective may be more of an acquired taste, but Nobody Wants to Die is an excellent entry in the cyberpunk genre.

EGS Free Games List Until February 19

  • Nobody Wants to Die (Expires February 19)
  • The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark (Expires February 19)

Nobody Wants to Die is a cyberpunk noir adventure game set in New York City in 2329, where players take on the role of Mortality Department detective James Karra. Hot on the tail of a serial killer, Karra must deal with the fact that consciousness can be stored and bodies replaced. All of this leads him to dark secrets among New York City’s elite, with strong investigative gameplay where players use advanced tech to reconstruct crime scenes. Meanwhile, The Darkside Detective is a more humorous game, a point-and-click adventure with players as Detective Francis McQueen and his sidekick Officer Dooley. Players investigate paranormal cases in the cursed town of Twin Lakes, complete with multiple standalone mysteries and supernatural happenings.

At least one of these Epic Games Store free games should speak to players, meaning if they haven’t claimed it yet, they should do so ASAP. Both are available on the Epic Games Store. Of course, more free games will be made available when these two rotate out on February 19, but arguably, the two new free games are less broadly appealing.

New Epic Games Store Freebies Coming on February 19

  • Return to Ash (Free from February 19 to February 26)
  • STALCRAFT: X Starter Edition (Free from February 19 to February 26)

Sometimes the Epic Games Store gives out more “free content” than free games necessarily, and that’s what’s happening with 1 freebie next week. Stalcraft: X is an open-world MMOFPS set in Chernobyl, and of note is that it is already a free-to-play game. What Epic Games Store is giving away is a starter pack, giving new players a boost with some weapons, gear, and other content. The other free giveaway is a game, but it’s a visual novel, which is arguably a little less widely appealing. Return to Ash is about choices, relationships, and how those two things affect the afterlife.

In other words, players should act quickly to grab the current EGS offerings, especially if next week’s don’t speak to them. The benefit of Epic Games Store’s consistent giveaways is reliability, all the same. If the Epic Games Store’s free games for February 19 don’t speak to players, they can expect new ones to be revealed tomorrow and released on February 26. Chances are, at least one of these free games speaks to someone.
