Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is reportedly coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, together with at least one more critically acclaimed RPG from recent years. That’s according to a new report from a longtime leaker that suggests RPG fans among Switch 2 owners have much to look forward to in 2026.
The information comes from Nate the Hate, a longtime podcaster and industry insider with a strong track record of accurate Nintendo-related reporting. He has previously leaked the timing of over a dozen Nintendo Direct presentations and made multiple correct calls regarding upcoming Switch titles. He was also the only insider to accurately predict the reveal date of the Switch 2, correctly reporting that Nintendo would formally announce the console on January 16, 2025.

During the latest, January 26 episode of his podcast, Nate the Hate said that several high-profile role-playing games are set to arrive on the Switch 2 in 2026. The reported lineup includes Sandfall Interactive’s multi-award-winning Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Atlus’s 2024 JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio, which is still the studio’s most recent major new release. Final Fantasy 16 may also join Nintendo’s hybrid console, although Nate the Hate expressed less certainty about that title, saying it was only “under consideration” rather than in active development at present.

The Switch 2 version of Metaphor: ReFantazio has been the subject of numerous industry rumors that started circulating even before its initial release in October 2024. More recent reports had suggested a 2025 launch, but that has not materialized. Atlus has nevertheless supported Nintendo’s new console since its arrival, releasing Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army in June 2025 and Persona 3 Reload four months later. The Japanese studio also announced Persona 4 Revival back in June, though the remake of its iconic 2008 JRPG has so far only been confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, indicating that if a Switch 2 version does happen, it may be late to the market.
Sandfall Recently Hinted at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Switch 2 Port Being on the Cards
The prospect of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 coming to the Switch 2 appeared plausible even before Nate the Hate’s latest report, in part because the game’s developer had previously acknowledged that possibility. In a May 2025 interview, Sandfall Interactive CEO Guillaume Broche expressed interest in developing a Switch 2 version of the RPG, noting that the game’s monumental success opened doors to fresh opportunities, thanks in part to the resources it provided for the French studio to pursue new ventures, additional ports very much included. Nevertheless, Broche did not commit to anything concrete at the time.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy May Determine Whether Switch 2 Gets FF16
With regard to Final Fantasy 16, the latest report marks a modest shift from Nate the Hate’s earlier comments. In February 2025, he said Square Enix was prioritizing the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy for the Switch 2 over Final Fantasy 16, and correctly predicted the mid-2025 announcement of an Xbox version of FF16. Square Enix later confirmed a Switch 2 version of FF7 Remake Intergrade in September 2025, with the port launching on January 22. The company also announced that Rebirth and the third entry in the FF7 Remake trilogy will arrive on Nintendo’s current-generation console. Given this context, the commercial performance of FF7 Remake Intergrade—or the trilogy as a whole—could play a key role in determining whether Final Fantasy 16 is eventually released on the Switch 2 as well.
