Fallout fans got a lot of good news recently after Bethesda confirmed that a Fallout 3 and New Vegas remaster are in the works, and they need to be released as a bundle if Bethesda wants to make an even bigger splash. Not only that, but Bethesda also revealed that pre-production on Fallout 5 has begun, and Obsidian Entertainment has been tasked with creating a new Fallout spin-off. There are a lot of exciting projects for Fallout fans to look forward to now, and the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters are more than likely going to be the games that debut first.
There have been rumors about a Fallout 3 and New Vegas remaster for a long time, but Bethesda’s notorious bout of silence ever since Starfield launched left many longtime fans growing anxious about what the studio has in the pipeline. Between no Fallout game updates apart from Fallout 76 and even less news regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 since it was announced back in 2018, it looked like Bethesda was stuck in limbo. That dry spell is finally over, though, and many fans’ eyes are now set on the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters Are Beyond Exciting, But Releasing Them as a Bundle Would Be the Icing on the Cake
Bethesda hasn’t announced a release date for the remasters yet, but fans hopefully don’t have to wait too long. Since remastering a game doesn’t take nearly as long as building a new Fallout game from the ground up, gamers will hopefully get to see Fallout 3 and New Vegas in a new and improved light within the next year or two. Only time will tell, but releasing the games as a bundle is the key to getting the most out of the two remasters.

The Fallout remaster news is a reason for both longtime fans and newcomers to celebrate. There are a lot of gamers who didn’t jump into the series until checking out the live-action Fallout show on Amazon Prime, and getting to experience revamped versions of these two entries is bound to be exciting for newer fans who tried to play the original games but were potentially deterred by how dated they feel. RPGs have evolved a lot since Fallout 3 and New Vegas debuted, and even though a lot of players still find them well worth the time, it can be harder to entice newer gamers, which is a big audience that Bethesda needs to attract if it wants Fallout 5 to be as successful as possible after such a long hiatus.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas Are Different Enough for a Bundle to Work
Both titles are RPGs set in the same universe, but fans already know that each game offers a very different experience. Even just the setting alone makes the two feel incredibly distinct. Fallout 3‘s Capital Wasteland boasts the green-tinged ruins of Washington D.C. and a showdown between the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave, while New Vegas‘ titular city and surrounding Mojave Desert give the story a western edge complete with casinos and various factions fighting for control of the wasteland.
Obsidian Entertainment brought the original New Vegas to life under Bethesda’s leadership, but it’s unclear if the developer’s secretive spin-off is going to be a sequel or not. Even though Obsidian coming back to make a Fallout game is exciting news, being assigned this project also caused the Avowed sequel to be canceled.
So, there really wouldn’t be any issues with releasing two RPGs together in one package, because the stories and the Fallout wastelands they are set in are incredibly unique. It gives players the best of both worlds, and releasing the remasters as a bundle would be a simple, but effective, way to show thanks to the fans after patiently waiting for a Fallout release that isn’t a Fallout 76 update or a new version of Fallout 4.
In Addition to a Bundled Release, Bethesda Needs to Finally Capitalize on the Fallout TV Series
One of the most baffling aspects of Bethesda’s game plan over the past few years is that the developer hasn’t seemed eager to take advantage of the Fallout TV show and its strong success. Of course, there was Fallout 76‘s Burning Springs update that added The Ghoul as a bounty-giving NPC, and Fallout Shelter introduced a variety of the show’s characters. That isn’t enough, though.
The fans deserve something even more exciting to help satisfy the Fallout cravings once the show’s next season arrives. A Fallout Season 3 release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the timeline of the past two seasons may place it somewhere in the fall/winter 2027 window. That’s possibly enough time to get the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters ready. Even if the remasters don’t hit a late 2027 target, launching in the first quarter of 2028 would still put it close enough to the TV series for Bethesda to benefit from that popularity.
The Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters Can Hopefully Get Bethesda’s Ball Rolling Again
Bethesda has felt stagnant in recent years. Even though Amazon Prime has had a lot of success with the Fallout series, the game franchise hasn’t really produced anything significant. Now that Bethesda has revealed some long-awaited Fallout and The Elder Scrolls 6 updates, the next few years are hopefully stronger for the developer. Starfield failed to resonate with gamers the same way that Fallout and The Elder Scrolls have over the years, and the remasters could be the first step in getting Bethesda back on track.
As the year continues, Bethesda hopefully has more news to share with Fallout and Elder Scrolls fans. Only time will tell, but the confirmation of these new Bethesda games is the most that fans have heard from the developer in a long time. The wait may be a little while longer, but it’s going to be fascinating to see what Fallout 3 and New Vegas look like with a fresh coat of paint.
