The PSN requirement for PC players appears to be coming back with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, meaning 132 countries will be blocked from accessing the game entirely. Arc System Works originally revealed Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls in 2025, which adds a unique twist to the typical tag-based fighting. With a community clamoring for another Marvel tag fighter, ArcSys is hoping that its upcoming title can fill that hole.
There’s been a ton of momentum and excitement building for the upcoming fighting game, especially coming off the recent reveal of Marvel Tokon‘s anticipated Samurai Outriders team. Debuting at EVO 2026, the last team to be playable at launch featured Ghost Rider leading a squad of Deadpool, Loki, and Blade. The game’s roster has grown considerably since its reveal last year, featuring a solid mix of expected characters, fan favorites, and a few unique choices to hopefully provide something appealing for everyone. Unfortunately, with the latest discovery, it appears that not everyone on PC will be able to check out the game.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Requires PlayStation Network To Run
While nothing has officially been confirmed yet at the time of publication, players noted that the SteamDB page for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls reveals that the game is blocked in 132 countries that don’t have access to the PlayStation Network. Users from many of these regions are also reporting an error message appearing when accessing the game’s page on Steam as well, adding to the frustration. While the game is still a month out from release, it’s possible things could change, but for now, the region-locked discovery is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of many fans.

Many are assuming the PSN requirement for Marvel Tokon is linked to the game featuring crossplay. With various online game modes like Lobbies and Ranked inside Marvel Tokon, crossplay not only allows players to battle one another across the globe, but it also links PC and PS5 players as well, which is likely why the PlayStation Network requirement is being enforced in this case.
This isn’t the first time that this situation has arisen, though the previous time kicked off a firestorm from the community that ultimately forced Sony to change course. The original PSN controversy came with the launch of Helldivers 2 on PC, also requiring a PSN account in order to access it. Players were given a specific date to link their Steam account to PSN, otherwise face losing access to the game entirely. Following backlash and review bombing on PC, Sony reversed course on the PSN linking requirement, leaving fans overjoyed at the about-face and seemingly closing the chapter for good. Until now.

Unfortunately for Sony, this is just the latest misstep that many feel the corporation has made in the past couple of weeks. Sony has been facing heavy criticism over its decision to discontinue physical discs on PlayStation consoles by January 2028. Reaction to the news has been just about universally negative, though Sony continued with the bad news by also confirming that the PS3 and Vita store is also being shut down globally by 2027. Couple all that with the recent shutdown of Destiny 2, a Sony owned property, as well as the PlayStation CEO’s comments on AI’s growing role at Sony, things are certainly not looking great for fans at the moment.
