Final Fantasy 14 has officially revealed the Evercold expansion, which will bring players to the Fourth Reflection when it releases in January 2027. This expansion begins a new multi-expansion story for Final Fantasy 14 called the Godless Realms Saga.

Patch 7.5 of Final Fantasy 14 arrives April 28, bringing with it the first part of the finale of Dawntrail. The second part of the Patch 7.5 story will arrive on September 8, and together, they will bridge the gap between Dawntrail and the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion. This release was expected to be announced at the first Fan Festival in Anaheim, California on April 24.

Final Fantasy 14 Reveals Final Details for Dawntrail Patch 7.5

With Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.5 right around the corner, Square Enix gives players a closer look at the next major content update for Dawntrail.

Final Fantasy 14: Evercold Begins the Godless Realms Saga

The first FanFest has officially begun, and with it, the reveal of Final Fantasy 14’s next expansion: Evercold. The teaser trailer for this new expansion is framed around a bedtime story told to a young Au Ra about how the Far Wanderer – their name for the Warrior of Light – saved their world from a creeping cold. The Warrior of Light arrives through a portal to a floating world with Estinien and Alphinaud, after which they are attacked by strange crystal constructs. Though the Warrior of Light starts as Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail‘s Viper early in the trailer, they become a Reaper by the end.

This world is the Fourth Reflection, one of the three worlds beyond the Source in Final Fantasy 14 that was never affected by the Ascians in an attempted Rejoining. The land was described as a paradise, full of gorgeous, arched architecture, massive crystals, and lush wildlife. However, a new type of calamity has come to this world, likely the dark fate hinted at by Halmarut in Patch 7.4. Mysterious arcane giants roam the world as an insidious frost chokes the land beneath, and only the Warrior of Light can save the Fourth from meeting its end.

The Endwalker expansion ended the Zodiark and Hydaelyn arc that Final Fantasy 14 began with A Realm Reborn, while Dawntrail was considered to be a reset to a more grounded story. Evercold starts a new storyline for the critically-acclaimed MMORPG called the Godless Realms Saga. Judging from the name, hints from the current story, and the setting of Evercold, this multi-expansion saga may be about visiting other Reflections like the Fourth to save and unite them in the aftermath of Hydaelyn and Zodiark’s fall.
