Fortnite Announces New Game Mode

Fortnite Announces New Game Mode

Fortnite launches its own Arenas Boxfights game mode on April 9, giving players an official version of a fan-favorite Creative island type. Save the World was supposed to be the main Fortnite game mode, but the plan was derailed when the developers realized that Battle Royale was what truly caught players’ attention. Then, Epic Games moved its focus almost entirely to Battle Royale, creating an interesting storyline, Battle Pass seasons riddled with cosmetics, and an ever-changing island.

Occasionally, Epic Games would release new limited-time modes in Fortnite, generally with thematic quests and even some cosmetic rewards, to keep players entertained. This grew to the point that it launched entirely new game modes in Fortnite, such as Fortnite Festival, Fortnite Ballistic, Fortnite OG, Rocket Racing, and LEGO Fortnite. Some of these supposedly permanent modes weren’t as popular as others, which is why Epic Games announced that certain Fortnite game modes will be vaulted soon.

Fortnite Adding Official Boxfight Game Mode on April 9

Even though Rocket Racing, Ballistic, and Fortnite Festival’s Battle Stage will be removed soon, players have a new game mode called Arenas Boxfights to keep them entertained once the other game modes are gone. According to the announcement post made by the official Fortnite account on Twitter, Arenas Boxfights will be live on April 9, and it will consist of 1v1 and 2v2 matches in a 16-player game with several rounds. Whoever reaches 15 round wins first will be considered the winner of the match.

Besides the official game modes and LTMs, there are thousands of Creative maps in Fortnite made by content creators in the community. Boxfights are among some of the most popular Fortnite Creative islands, as they allow players to test their competitive skills, especially in close quarters. In the past, there was a Close Quarters LTM that only featured close-ranged weapons, forcing players to come within each other’s personal space and fight face-to-face. This was particularly intense in Battle Royale games with building enabled, as it led to some serious build battles.

According to the announcement post, the Arenas Boxfight mode will feature alternating weapons and items, a ranked mode, and maps made especially for this mode. On top of this, to incentivize players to try out this new game mode in Fortnite, Epic Games is giving away two cosmetic items for free as part of the upcoming Arenas Boxfights Quests. Players have the opportunity to unlock the Builder’s Crest back bling and the Cracked Blueprint spray for playing the game mode and winning a certain number of boxfights.

The next Fortnite update is scheduled for April 16, and it is then that Fortnite Festival Battle Stage and Ballistic will be removed. Thankfully, players won’t have to wait that long to play the Arenas Boxfights game mode, as it is scheduled to go live on Thursday, April 9. Epic Games has not revealed when exactly the game mode will go live, but it is expected to drop at 9 AM ET, as it is then that most events or new content tend to start.
