Game of the Year Winner Leaked for Switch 2

Game of the Year Winner Leaked for Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 could see the arrival of It Takes Two later this year, if a new leak proves accurate. Since the system’s launch in 2025, Nintendo Switch 2 has received a steady stream of ports of older games released on platforms like PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as performance upgrades for games that were released on the original Switch.

Released by EA and Hazelight Studios in 2021, It Takes Two quickly proved to be a critical and commercial success. The co-op game won numerous awards, including the overall Game of the Year at The Game Awards. The massive success seems to have resulted in a lot of games like It Takes Two being released, with an increasing number of developers focusing on similar co-op experiences.

It’s Official: The Nintendo Switch 2 Has Beaten the GameCube

Switch 2 has taken down the GameCube in a short amount of time, as players around the globe have quickly embraced Nintendo’s newest system.

It Takes Two Leaks for Nintendo Switch 2

According to a leak from Powell Asia Holdings, It Takes Two will be released for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 15. A video game distributor based in China, Powell Asia Holdings has seemingly confirmed that It Takes Two will be getting a Game-Key Card release on the system. Game-Key Cards have been a source of controversy for Nintendo, but publishers have embraced them in a big way during the Switch 2 era. Part of the preference for Switch 2 users comes down to the fact that Game-Key Cards require full game downloads, and It Takes Two will apparently require 12.1 GB of space on the system.

More than a year after the game’s initial release, It Takes Two was ported over to the original Switch. At this time, it’s unclear if the Switch 2 version of the game will offer an upgrade path for existing owners. Games released on the original Switch like Sonic Racing CrossWorlds and Shadow Labyrinth have received free and paid improvements on the new hardware, but many Switch 2 games don’t offer upgrade paths. That can be frustrating for those that have already bought some of these games, and would prefer the chance to play them with better graphics and performance than was previously possible.

Historically, EA hasn’t been the biggest supporter of Nintendo systems, but that seems to be changing since the release of Switch 2. The Madden NFL franchise has started to see yearly releases on the platform, but there are still a lot of notable EA games that have yet to be offered physically or digitally on the eShop. NHL games remain exclusive to PlayStation and Xbox platforms, and EA and Respawn’s well-regarded Star Wars games have yet to appear on a Nintendo system.

EA has not confirmed the legitimacy of this leak, so Switch 2 owners will have to wait patiently to see if It Takes Two really is coming to the platform this fall. In the meantime, Nintendo fans in the market for a new co-op game might want to check out Orbitals. The upcoming Switch 2 exclusive has already drawn several comparisons to It Takes Two, though Orbitals features an art style inspired by ’80s anime. Orbitals was not developed by Hazelight Studios, but game director Jakob Lundgren previously worked on It Takes Two. The game is set to be released on September 3.
