Game Of Thrones Creator Shares Bleak But Heartfelt Update

It’s time to stop asking George R. R. Martin for his pages. When is The Winds of Winter coming? Who knows. What about A Dream of Spring? Probably never. The writer of the hit “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novels that became HBO’s Game of Thrones appeared on his personal blog recently to provide an update to readers, not on his work but on his life, and it sounds like he’s really been going through it.

“Remember me?” began the first new post in several months. “It’s been a while, I know. My last blog post went up here on February 19. The posts that came after were made by my mighty minions. I am lucky enough to have a great staff of assistants… though even with their help, I kept falling further and further behind.”

“My friends are all dying. I am battling depression and the worst is yet to come”

It continued:

This year has been… stressful, to say the least. So much has been happening, it’s been overwhelming. Some great things, exciting things. Dreams coming true. But there have been nightmares too. I have lost friends. Battled sadness and depression. The worst may be yet to come. I turned seventy-seven last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun. But there have been amazing times as well.

I suppose that’s just life. Of course, I knew that. If you’ve read my stories, you know that.

So much to post about… I will try and catch up some… and my minions will help… but my posts are likely to short and rushed.

The worst may be yet to come. The worst may be yet to come. Those words have been echoing in my head all day. No sentiment is more befitting the mastermind behind the bleak events of A Song of Ice and Fire, or more after my own heart. The internet has spent years poking fun at Martin for appearing to do everything except finish the long-awaited final two books in his series.

And after this latest message, well, I’m ready to leave the man alone. Let him contribute to the next FromSoftware game. Let him hang around on set for all the Game of Thrones spin-offs still in production. Let him have some peace.

His latest update wasn’t all doom and gloom, however. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is up for nine Emmy nominations. Martin is hoping to attend the awards ceremony in person, but it remains TBD. “I am proud of our team, and hope we take home a few of the statues, but I will confess that I was hoping we’d get a few of the acting nominations as well,” he wrote. “But there’s always next year.”
