The world of Game of Thrones is filled with mysteries that George R.R. Martin has intentionally left unanswered, but few are as obscured and yet present as the Lord of Light, and yet August 7 may pull back the curtain however slightly. Recent Game of Thrones shows like House of the Dragon have largely focused on the Targaryens and their dragons, while fans have been directly impacted by the religion of R’hllor, whether they knew it was called that or not. Even after all these years, fans still know surprisingly little about the god worshipped across the Narrow Sea.
Of course, this Game of Thrones mystery has only made the Lord of Light more compelling. Followers like Melisandre and Thoros of Myr seemingly performed miracles throughout Game of Thrones, resurrecting Beric Dondarrion multiple times before eventually bringing Jon Snow back from the dead. Combined with the prophecy of Azor Ahai and the religion’s apparent role in the fight against the White Walkers (even if many questions remain), R’hllor continues to be one of the franchise’s most intriguing pieces of lore.
Game of Thrones: The Lord of Light Returns for a Limited-Time Event (August 7-August 9)
Now, Game of Thrones fans will get to revisit that mythology beginning August 7. Game of Thrones: Lord of Light arrives as the latest featured event in Game of Thrones: Conquest. Running through August 9, the limited-time PvP event is part of the mobile strategy game’s new History and Visions monthly storyline and pits kingdoms against one another for event rewards tied to the August campaign. How much it reveals about the Lord of Light remains to be seen, but fans should only expect a speckling. Of course, interest in it could perhaps see the storyline expanded someday.

Warner Bros. Games hasn’t revealed any unique gameplay mechanics for Game of Thrones: Conquest‘s Lord of Light event just yet, but its theme draws directly from one of Westeros’ most mysterious religions. The event joins several other August activities, including Test Your Mettle, The Climb, and War for the Throne, giving active players another chance to earn exclusive rewards before the monthly storyline comes to an end.
For those unfamiliar with it, Game of Thrones: Conquest is a free-to-play 4X strategy game where players build keeps, train armies, raise dragons, forge alliances, and battle rival kingdoms across Westeros. The game regularly rotates themed monthly campaigns based on characters, locations, and major events from the franchise, with limited-time rewards available throughout each story arc. So, this is nothing new, but at the same time, it pulls on an area of Game of Thrones largely unexplored by George R. R. Martin.
While the Lord of Light remains one of Game of Thrones‘ biggest unanswered mysteries, fans won’t have to wait for another TV series or George R.R. Martin novel to spend more time with its mythology. At the very least, Conquest is putting the spotlight back on R’hllor this week, giving longtime fans another reason to jump back into Westeros while the limited-time event is live.
