Gears of War: E-Day has been fairly quiet on the news front, with the game expected to be released in 2026; however, a new sponsorship with WWE has fans thinking that the game’s release date could be this fall. Since its announcement in 2024, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on when Gears of War: E-Day will release, with only Xbox reaffirming that the game is definitely launching in 2026.
The Coalition has been hard at work with Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel game to the main Gears of War franchise that follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago from the original trilogy as young Cogs caught in the middle of the infamous E-Day. There haven’t been too many details about Gears of War: E-Day out of Xbox even two years since the game’s announcement, but it seems like the tide is about to turn with a deluge of Gears news coming very soon. Microsoft has announced that a Gears of War E-Day Direct is coming on June 7, 2026, right after the Xbox Games Showcase, and it should be roughly 30 minutes of purely E-Day details and gameplay ahead of the game’s release. Hopefully, with a release date attached.
Gears of War E-Day and WWE Hint at a Potential Game Release Date
With the Gears of War: E-Day Direct still a month away, eager fans have speculated that the game is set to launch sometime in September, based on a recent promotional video featuring WWE and Triplemania 34. World Wrestling Entertainment, in collaboration with AAA Lucha Libre, is hosting the two-day Triplemania 34 on Friday, September 11, and Sunday, September 13, with promotional material featuring Gears of War: E-Day on promo videos and posters. Pro wrestling and lucha events start their promotional cycles well before many major games do, so this could very well be a launch-window sponsorship for Gears that has gone live before an official release date is set. Given recent rumors that Gears of War: E-Day is launching in the fall, fans believe that Triplemania’s collaboration with Gears in September only adds more fuel to the theory that the game’s launch window should be around that time.

Nothing is definitive until Xbox confirms the official release date for Gears of War: E-Day, hopefully in June, but this could give a pretty big hint of when the game is supposed to release. Historically, major wrestling promotions like WWE and AEW have partnered with video game publishers near a major game’s launch, like when Drew McIntyre had a DOOM-inspired entrance at Wrestlemania 41 before the launch of DOOM: The Dark Ages. Additionally, Gears of War and WWE go way back, with stars like Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods of The New Day being playable characters in Gears 5. With all that factored in, the recent Triplemania promo could be a pretty solid hint that WWE is looking to get some good cross-promotional advertising for Gears of War: E-Day close to launch.
It would make a lot of sense for Gears of War: E-Day to launch in September if rumors and speculation prove true. With the massive launch of GTA 6 happening in November, it seems most game studios are clearing the runway for Rockstar and releasing their games in September to beat the sales juggernaut. Gears of War: E-Day could be joining the likes of Blood of the Dawnwalker, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Phantom Blade Zero this September, along with any unannounced games internally targeting the same month.

What’s more, Xbox still has plenty of games down the pipeline besides Gears of War: E-Day later this year. Still to come is Halo: Campaign Evolved in July, which is a ground-up remake of Halo: Combat Evolved built in Unreal Engine 5, featuring new story missions and gameplay mechanics. Most interestingly, there is the upcoming Fable reboot, which is supposedly coming in the fall of 2026 as well, so it seems like it will have to be planned around GTA 6 and, accordingly, with Gears of War: E-Day. Regardless of where any of these games launch, it seems like fall 2026 might be a stacked time for game releases.
