Adrian has been writing, critiquing, and thinking about games since he first picked up an N64 controller many years ago. These days he writes reviews, news, and features for Game Rant and believes games should be held to the same artistic standards as books, movies, and television shows. When he’s not writing for Game Rant, Adrian writes even more reviews for Sirus Gaming and likes to get nerdy about tech and retro games at HackerNoon. Outside the gaming world, he spends plenty of time enjoying movies or listening to every genre of music under the sun. Follow him on Twitter for nonsense tweets likely related to Dragon Ball Z, or check out Breadhouse Records for some tunes.
Gears of War: E-Day appears to be getting review-bombed on Steam at launch, with some players criticizing content they describe as “woke.” Despite the backlash, Gears of War: E-Day still appears to be off to a strong start, with fans returning to the world of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago for the first time in seven years.
Gears of War: E-Day Is Getting Hit With Negative Reviews
While critical reception to Gears of War: E-Day has been largely positive, a segment of the audience seems quite upset with it. Some of the negative response centers on the first openly LGBTQ character, Mags Carter, along with Pride-themed multiplayer cosmetics, and what some players see as a change in the series’ identity. One lengthy review argues that the new character receives too much attention at the expense of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, with the reviewer writing, “My problem is how aggressively the game tries to put Carter in the spotlight.” Others have raised concerns about The Coalition’s reported involvement with consulting firm Hit Detection, which offers cultural consultation and other similar services. However, these complaints don’t represent every negative review, as the backlash also includes objections to the game’s creative direction and missing gameplay features like private matches and meat shields.
