Greedfall: The Dying World is getting what may be the last of its content updates and a formerly paid DLC for free, as per a recent announcement from the developer, Spiders. Greedfall: The Dying World came out as an Early Access follow-up to the original 2019 Greedfall, switching from an ARPG gameplay loop to being a party-led turn-based RPG.
Greedfall: The Dying World released on Early Access in September 2024, with it immediately receiving criticism for its now turn-based combat gameplay. Its development proceeded, however, with the game getting a full-featured 1.0 release in March 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. It wasn’t until the publishing company, Nacon, announced its insolvency that the developer, Spiders, did the same. This appears to have wrapped up Greedfall 2‘s development for good.

Greedfall: The Dying World’s Potentially Final Update Suggests Last DLC is Free
Greedfall developer Spiders is shutting down, which means the effective cessation of any and all development on The Dying World, though one last patch for the game has been pushed through to Steam, including the activation of its DLC. This DLC, titled Peren’s Black Mass, was originally planned to be paid release with its own bespoke mini-story, but the new patch notes make no reference to this being the case. TheGamer first reported on the matter and stated there were no in-game references to Peren’s Black Mass, either. “There is a very good chance it is in the game, but Nacon can’t actually tell us how to start it because the developers are already gone,” the article states.

Poor communication seems to be the problem here, and with no actual developers left to clear things up, the Greedfall community may have to figure things out on the fly. As Peren’s Black Mass was due to release on May 14, it’s possible that some type of automatic activation trigger may still be pending. Given Nacon’s recent insolvency filing, the publisher has bigger problems to deal with than the specifics of a small expansion pack, so it’s not surprising the team simply doesn’t know.
The real tragedy lies in what happens next to the folks responsible for making these games, not in the state of Greedfall‘s final piece of DLC, though. Spiders produced a wealth of AA RPGs over the years, and while the original Greedfall remains the team’s best game, its output was never lacking in variety. Theirs were rarely truly mainstream titles, but Spiders RPGs were, regardless, standout showpieces of the AA gaming niche, which seems to slowly be giving way to either extremely high-tier AAA blockbusters, or to small-scale indies, with little left in-between.

Greedfall: The Dying World players are left with a single final stability update for the game and a content pack that may or may not be released for free on May 14. Virtually everything is up in the air as Nacon scrambles to stay in business. The big Nacon Connect event was slated for March 4, only to get pushed back to May 7. More news about the publisher, its IPs, and the employees themselves is bound to hit as the situation develops.
