Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has shared the company’s financial projections for the current fiscal year, confirming expected revenue from the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Unofficial analyses of Grand Theft Auto 6‘s potential earnings have varied significantly in the months leading up to the game’s November 19 launch. However, they all unsurprisingly estimate revenue in the billions.
During the early days of the game’s pre-orders, it was also estimated that GTA 6 generated $1 billion in just one hour, though that figure was largely based on Take-Two’s stock market performance and not the actual pre-orders. Some experts now believe the upcoming AAA title could generate between $3.5 billion and $5 billion in its first week after its global launch. That said, Take-Two’s official forecast points to far more modest earnings.
GTA 6 Expected to Help Generate More Than $1 Billion in Operating Cash Flow
In an official new statement shared with Take-Two shareholders on July 17, Strauss Zelnick said the company expects to see an operating cash flow of more than $1 billion in the current fiscal year. In business, operating cash flow refers to “the cash a business generates from its core operating activities, including sales and day-to-day operating expenses (via Ramp.com).” The forecast accounts for the company’s overall revenue from all its games. However, Take-Two appears to have no other major releases or significant business activities planned for 2026, so its expectation of more than $1 billion in operating cash flow likely reflects its confidence in GTA 6‘s November 19 release.

Another interesting part of Zelnick’s statement is Take-Two’s reiterated intention to continue pursuing mergers and acquisitions (M&A), similar to its 2022 acquisition of Zynga. The CEO said, “Backed by our flexible balance sheet and expected operating cash flow of more than $1 billion this fiscal year, we are positioned to realize the creative and commercial potential of our franchises, pursue accretive M&A opportunities and invest in technology that will unlock greater creative capabilities and operational efficiencies across our organization.”

The Numbers Are All in GTA 6’s Favor
According to a new report by Simply Wall Street, “Take-Two Interactive’s earnings are forecast to grow by 48.02% per year.” Newzoo’s latest report also suggests that GTA 6 likely generated $260 million during its first week of pre-orders, which could mean the game’s actual launch week sales may reach as high as $5.2 billion worldwide. However, the gaming industry remains divided on most of these estimations. While one group strongly believes that GTA 6‘s sales will be groundbreaking, others think the figures may not match the hype and could end up closer to GTA 5‘s lifetime revenue.
What is certain is that Take-Two Interactive is betting big on GTA 6 and seems confident that, alongside other well-performing titles like GTA Online and the NBA 2K series, it will help boost the company’s cash flow to more than $1 billion. Before GTA 6‘s release, however, Take-Two has another important event that could influence its future. On September 17 at 9 AM EST, the company will hold its latest annual meeting with shareholders, where they will be able to vote on some of Take-Two’s policies and management changes. The virtual meeting could also reveal new information about the highly anticipated GTA 6, though that is only speculation, as nothing related has been confirmed on the official agenda.
