Grand Theft Auto VI has finally had its big gameplay reveal. That included more details about the story, which centers heavily on the relationship between Jason and Lucia, and how it’ss impacted by their life of crime.
“We’re trying to reflect a sort of crazy, warped version of this American state and city–we always try to do that,” Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson told the New York Times. “I think this story has–if you want it–themes of hopefulness, elements of sacrifice versus selfishness, and it plays out asking questions about whether love can survive through this storm.”
That relationship is front and center in the gameplay, which lets you switch seamlessly between them. Elsewhere in the report, Nelson says that the two could be lovers or simply partners in crime, and that will be up to the player. To maintain the relationship they’ll have to spend time together, like hanging out and responding to texts.
“It’s new for G.T.A., this idea of your actions having meaning in terms of how you treat your partner or how violent you are,” Nelson said.
