Fans have been waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6‘s third trailer to randomly drop online any day now, but it sounds like the next look at the open-world game will be coming from inside Netflix. Rockstar Games revealed that an “extended” bit of footage will debut exclusively on the streaming platform on August 27.
“In a first-of-its-kind partnership with Netflix, Rockstar Games announced today that Netflix subscribers will have the opportunity to watch an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on Thursday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. ET,” reads a new blog post over on Netflix. “The new iteration in the blockbuster series comes 13 years following the debut of GTAV, the same year that Netflix was beginning its push into original programming. This collaboration represents the next generation of storytelling and content on Netflix.”
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will also launch on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI site at 9 p.m. ET on August 27.

There’s a countdown timer and everything. The footage will then go live on Rockstar’s YouTube channel six hours later at 9:00 p.m. ET. I guess that means fans who have been desperately hoping for a new peek at GTA 6 before then are out of luck? The studio hasn’t hinted at how long the footage shown on Netflix will be or what fans can expect to learn from it.
“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right,” Netflix VP of nonfiction series Brandon Riegg said. “The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first. It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”

Rockstar Games has traditionally held hands-off preview events many months prior to the release of its games, but the only things we know about GTA 6 so far, which comes out in November, comes from just two trailers and a series of descriptions for pre-order and Deluxe Edition bonuses. Parent company Take-Two previously signaled that marketing for the blockbuster is supposed to ramp up during the summer.
It remains to be seen if we’ll get any surprise info dumps before August 27 or if Rockstar will hold any hands-on events for media and content creators prior to the game’s release.
